when I was comforting my 13 month old and he is fine with me my mother in law picked him up walked him to other side of room then around to try and comfort him herself without asking
And when he refused his lunch without asking takes him off me and then comes back with him with a plate of food and tries to feed him herself(he still refuses) without asking if that would be helpful or not. I wouldn't mind if she asked or if I was struggling
These are a few examples were i feel it was a bit overstepping /rude?

Yes, I would find those examples to be overstepping if it was my MIL.

Mine can be overbearing and too interfering so I have had to be firm with boundaries. It often feels as if she has forgotten she isn't in charge of my child, even when I am right there.

It's hard work and frustrating but I've learnt what to let go and what to speak up about. I usually try and think, if my mum did that, would it bother me. If the answer is no, I let it go. If it's yes, I speak up and correct the situation where needed.

We don't rely on anyone for childcare which also helps reduce blurring of lines. I know you haven't mentioned this but it helps us.
