Should we bring back night time nappies?

My DS is 4.5 and stopped wearing night time pull ups about a month ago. He had asked for a while and had been mostly dry overnight for a couple of months so we thought we'd let him try. The first 2-3 weeks were great, we maybe had 1 bed wetting incident. However in the last week or so he's woken up wet in the middle of the night three times. I'm wondering whether we took away the night time pull-ups too early and whether we should go back to them?

He talks often about how he can hold his wee all night, which he can (although we encourage him to wee before bed and wake us if he needs to use the toilet at night). He's never woken up and asked to use the toilet so I don't know if that's a sign he's not ready?

Any advice welcome!

It's hormone related so if he is wetting himself regularly that indicates he is not ready. I would be inclined to say go back to pullups as he's quite young but if he doesn't want to that is tricky. Not sure if you already do but maybe restrict drinks an hour before bed and be really militant about him going to the toilet before bed (and later if he's still awake). If he really doesn't want to back in pullups I'd maybe give it a few more weeks and see how it goes but I really wouldn't be concerned about him not being dry at that age.

Oh and I wouldn't expect him to be up in the night to wee so that isn't an indication he isn't ready - they should be able to get through the night without weeing at that age if the hormone has kicked in and they are ready.
The ERIC website is really good for advice.

I wouldn’t necessarily throw in the towel yet if he doesn’t want to wear them. Sometimes these things happen. Neither of mine were dry at night until 6/7 so I think 4 is quite early. But 3 accidents isn’t necessarily a sign he’s not ready either. I’d give it a few more weeks, make sure he’s drinking plenty, and then re-assess.

Update - another wet bed last night. And that was after stopping drinks 1 hour+ before bed, and two wees before going to sleep. Going to go back to pull-ups and revisit later on.

Mine was 7 before the hormone kicked in
