Newborn and covid

So my toddler is next door coughing quite badly and she had a runny nose too. I have now come down with it too and feel generally unwell and have a sore throat plus runny nose and headache. My newborn is 5 weeks old and we had some visitors, two of them were sneezing quite a bit but I assumed it was just hay fever. When they left I found out one of them told my DH they had a cold and were taking Lemsip which I am actually fuming about but that’s for another threat… my concern now is what is the risk of covid for newborns? I’m assuming it’s covid because apparently it is circulating in the UK and one of the main symptoms is sore throat…

It may not be Covid - Lots of bugs going around
But the two people who came to your house with colds when you have a 5 week old need talking to for sure

I dont think there is any specif advice with Newborns and Covid - Just keep an eye on babies temperature , anything of 38 i think under 6 weeks the advice is to go to Hospital and things like you would with your toddler
Flairing of nostrils, Pulling in at the stomach, chest or ribs,Purple skin around mouth/ nose, Finger nails, Rash etc
Not drinking, Not eating, not weeing, unable to wake, unusual cry

But to be honest - If you are concerned a hospital doctor will never turn you away
Best to be safe than sorry

My experience is that the vast majority of neonates cope with Covid remarkably well. Far better than adults. Pretty much hope it is Covid, as a standard nasty cold virus can actually be worse.

Yes that’s my understanding as well, glad you say that and hoping is Covid too then!

Yes absolutely, it may not be! Just going by the fact that there is this new strain circulating that gives a sore throat and because of the coughing my toddler has but it could be something else.
Don’t even get me started with the visitors, I can’t comprehend what on earth they were thinking about when visiting a house with a newborn…
Thanks a lot for the advice, I will keep a close eye on him…
