How to stop breastfeeding to sleep my 16mo

Currently bed sharing with my DS, have done since birth. Always breastfed to sleep & during the night lying down feeds. It’s been great to date & maximises my sleep and his. However, I’m wondering if I start to wean at night whether I might get some longer stretches, especially in the evening when he wakes multiple times before I get into bed so I’m up & down stairs like a yoyo.

I’ve just no idea how to do it in this situation? Do I just hold him & cuddle him if he cries? Strap him in the carrier and get him to sleep that way, then put him down in bed? With my eldest we took her bottles away at night when she was 2, so a bit older & more aware. Anyone with any experience with older babies? TIA

I fed, but didn't let them fall asleep at the breast. Hold them back up and read a book or two.

Then make the gap between the feed and the book longer so eventually you don't feed.

There will be angry tears on the first night or so but you can be there and cuddle. Within a few days they'll be used to it.

Following with interest as I have the same issue with my 14 month old!

DH cuddles you have a cup of tea in another room. I had to go cold turkey with mine at 20 months and it was the midnight wanting to feed that results in DD biting me for a couple of nights in frustration

Thank you for this. How long did it take for them to go to doing this? Did they just roll over and start sleeping? I can’t imagine it without feeding to sleep although I know it must work!
