Anyone up to stop me panicking?

Worried my 18 month old will overheat tonight. I don't even know what I think might happen. could a toddler die from overheating? Google isn't really offering any info at all other than for little babies/SIDS guidance ... So I guess that's a good thing ?

I've been in once and he guzzled some water and was pretty sweaty so I took his vest off. He's in just nappy and a 1 tog sleep bag now. Sleeping peacefully (he's always a good sleeper thankfully) but I can't switch off, just staring at the monitor checking he's breathing!

Tell me I'm being ridiculous so I can go to sleep please :)

We were forecast 30 degrees today and tomorrow and it certainly feels like it. I've been watching tv tonight in just a shortie lounge set, a fan trained on me, with doors wide open to the garden... and still absolutely boiled... (I am 37 weeks pg tho😂) And toddlers room is always hot anyway so it must be stifling in there.

Aw he'll be fine. Think of all the toddlers sleeping soundly in tropical places around the world every night. At 37 weeks I'm sure you are finding the heat much more uncomfortable than he is! 🙂

horseplay12 · 20/06/2025 01:02

Honestly, please try not to panic - just a vest is fine in this heat, he has had water, it’s cooler overnight - what are you sleeping in? In terms of layers/duvets/pjs etc?

I probably wouldn’t have him in a 1 tog sleeping bag if you’re worried but would depend how hot his room is? On really hot nights at that age I would have just had my son in a nappy in the bed or nappy and a vest but no bag (or maybe a 0.5 tog bag).

Having said that I’m sure he’ll be fine. If you’re really worried then maybe set an alarm to check on him every couple of hours or put a fan on in his room to move air around (but don’t leave it pointed at him).

tinyspiny · 20/06/2025 01:04

I’d have him out of the sleeping bag and just vest and nappy

horseplay12 · 20/06/2025 01:04

Vest & t-shirt or similar? Baby prob needs similar

riverofjordan · 20/06/2025 01:05

Aw thank you.

Yeah I'm thinking should I take the sleep bag off but he's had it every night since he was born and not sure if he would settle without it.

I'm sleeping in absolutely nothing with a fan blowing straight on me. Well, not sleeping at the minute 🥵😅

Because you are overheating whilst pregnant that's why your panicking over him bless you...keep a fan on overnight both of you will be fine...rest assured if he was uncomfortable or overheated he wouldn't be sound asleep..he would be fidgety and restless, so get some sleep and stop worrying. Also hope everything goes well with your pregnancy and birth...hope you have a healthy baby 🙏❤️

ForAzureSeal · 20/06/2025 01:06

If he gets hot he will wake up from thirst or discomfort - you'll know! If he wakes up fussing/grizzly then more water and take off the sleeping bag. Try to get some rest yourself.

Incakewetrust · 20/06/2025 01:07

I’d recommend taking him out of the sleeping bag, opening his window and his bedroom door for air flow and open your loft hatch so the hot air has somewhere to go xx

Thank you, he was really restless earlier then after I went in he settled down much more soundly. For some weird reason that made me worry more 😅 I guess I am just feeling the heat so much more myself, DH dropped straight off with usual duvet on

Thank you all x
I'm going to trust that he will just wake if he is uncomfortable then.

And yes hopefully no2 puts in an appearance early , I can't handle any more summer being pregnant 😅

My 15 month old is just in a nappy but is still sweaty! He's already woken to guzzle from my boob (trying to wean off BF but the heatwave is probably not a good time!)

If he wakes again and feels sweaty maybe take off the bag.

GiigiGiraffe89 · 20/06/2025 01:47

For the next night, I'd do a nappy and a tshirt only. They get really hot in those sleeping bags (imagine he can't even put a foot out the sheet to cool down like you do). At his age, he'll be fine, if he is too hot, he'll wake up loads

bananabread2000 · 20/06/2025 01:55

It's a bit late now but in case there are more hot nights, I live in Australia in a house with no airconditioning and both my boys were born in peak summer so I can very much relate to overheating at the end of pregnancy and the worry of what to do with little ones in hot rooms.
They used to just sleep in their nappies or nappy and vest, plenty of cross airflow if you can (open windows and doors, fan is you have one).

Moodlable4045 · 20/06/2025 06:43

Defo take the sleeping bag off. Dress them how you are dressed, they only need extra layers when they’re teeny tiny & that probably doesn’t apply in 30 degree heat

OtterMummy2024 · 20/06/2025 11:17

It's less of a problem when they are over a year because they can sweat to cool down. My baby's been sleeping in a vest and nappy, we put a fan on in their room and opened every window. Still got and horrible but best I can do :/

Caipulli · 20/06/2025 12:04

I live in south of France with no air con, it is currently 28 degrees in our bedroom at night and our three month old baby sleeps in her nappy with the fan blowing in her direction.
I also worry about her overheating at night and during the day when temps are 36+ …
I have a mist spray to spritz her with

riverofjordan · 20/06/2025 18:01

Thank you all x He slept peacefully and woke up happy this morning but with heat rash all over his tummy🙃 So I think we'll skip the grobag tonight
