Colic or reflux?

Dd is 6 weeks old and and even though she’s my third I’m so confused! She cries a lot unless held upright and it’s a very distressed cry as though she’s in pain. She sometimes gets distressed when feeding and arches her back and is difficult to burp.

I discounted reflux at first as she wasn’t bringing the feed up like my eldest used to but am now thinking it might be silent reflux. She is fine on a night though and happy laid flat in the pram so could it be colic and how do I know the difference?

Spoke to HV yesterday and getting a call from the GP this afternoon but just finding it very difficult to hear her so distressed a lot. I keep her in the baby carrier on me upright as much as I can but I have two other very young children and it’s not practical to not be able to put her down at all at home. I also feel like an awful mum as she seems so unhappy all the time and I don’t know how to help.

It could be silent reflux, my daughter has severe silent reflux and it slowly built in intensity starting with her only being troubled by it at certain points of the day until by 10-12 weeks it was pretty much continuously.

Holding upright is good, it might be that a milk thickener such as gaviscon would provide a bit more relief and if that doesn't help consider trialling omperazole

Hi how are you feeding. If artificial maybe change to a less colicky brand. Try YouTube for baby massage. Just remember it will pass but your baby is growing so are her bowels and intestines. Your not a bad mother, and remember all babies are different.
