I have just checked and they can’t give the drops OTC . Is it bacterial?

Firstbaby1234 · 10/06/2025 14:35

How would I know? It’s green gunk in both eyes @Pompompurin1

I would go to a pharmacy and speak to them there. and i am sure they will give you something. Dab his eyes with some cool boiled water for now, and get to the pharmacy as soon as you can.

The word is the same in Spanish, just the pronunciation is more like "con-hoon-tee-vee-teess". (In case you're asking in a pharmacy etc). If still breastfeeding you can express a bit and dab some into his eye. Ime it just clears up on it's own. You can keep wiping the eye secretions away with " suero", also available in pharmacies. Salt water solution.

Latenightreader · 10/06/2025 14:41

When my daughter had this I was told by the doctor to clean the eye with cooled boiled water and nothing else, using a fresh piece of cotton wool for each wipe. It cleared up in a few days.

OTC in Spain. DD just did it!

Pharmacies are great in Spain.

Firstbaby1234 · 10/06/2025 15:05

@notadrift how old? I’m worried they will say he’s too young

Why not just go to the pharmacy and find out?

BruisedNeckMeat · 10/06/2025 15:08

Are you breast feeding? I may be wrong but I’ve heard a small drop of breast milk in the affected area can help.

Firstbaby1234 · 10/06/2025 15:08

@MissEloiseBridgerton i am doing. It reopens at 4.30

15, But she also had it when small.
Ask for DALSY too. (A bit like Calpol)
I bet it is to do with the pool.Either way, the pharmacy will help.

Firstbaby1234 · 11/06/2025 16:22

@notadrift i went to the pharmacy and we’ve been to the doctor today, he said he won’t prescribe a baby any eyedrops and told us to go to the hospital which is an hour away..

Just use cooled boiled water with salt. It's only like a cold in the eye. If it doesn't improve then go to the hospital.

I would try a different pharmacy.

notadrift · 11/06/2025 16:35

Do not take baby. Say it is for you and read packet instructions carefully. Dilluting everything.

LuvACustardCream · 11/06/2025 16:58

When I worked in an opticians we recommended bathing the eye with cooled boiled water or cooled boiled chamomile tea

Datsafunnyone · 11/06/2025 17:21

Both types of conjunctivitis are self limiting. Do as the posters above recommend with boiled water. It will clear up. It's not dangerous.

notadrift · 11/06/2025 17:22

@LuvACustardCream worked as an optition. I would follow her advice. I cannot believe they did not offer you diluted salt steralised water. The number of times I got it for DD as a baby.

Topjoe19 · 11/06/2025 18:36

Opticians advice. Absolutely cool boiled water with a bit of salt. The best thing. It will take a few days but it will clear up so stick with it.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 11/06/2025 22:44

The best thing is chloramphenicol but you would need to ask if it is suitable for a baby.
you can bathe the eye with warm
water and a tiny bit of baby shampoo.
