3 year old birthday day out ideas (London and surrounds)

Does anyone have any family day out ideas in/around London for our 3-year old's birthday? We did London Zoo last year, and she goes quite regularly to farm parks, soft plays, galleries & museums etc, so looking for something a bit more 'special.'

We're already a bit burnt out on travelling this summer, so hoping to keep it local-ish, but we do have a car so could go a bit further afield.

How about a walk along South Bank London? They usually have street performers outside Royal Festival Hall. Lots of eating places.

You can start at London Eye and walk towards London Bridge. SeaLife (by the London Eye) is magical too for a young child. It does get very crowded later in the day

Frankly I wouldn't go out for a whole day. 3 year old notoriously flag quickly. I'd do toy or book shop, park and lunch then home for a movie.

What month is the birthday?

Might she like - a riverboat, the seaside, a castle, animals,! A huge adventure playground, bigger soft play, an indoor waterpark (center parcs style), peppa pig world or legoland, kidzania, monsters, heroes, dressing up?

Or just a day of her favourite things but she gets to choose what she wears, eats and does?

Lego land Windsor! It’s a great day out but I’d buy a queue bot with having a three year old. You can get food in there and spend the whole day!

I was literally about to type this suggestion.
I love it there.

A show - one of the Julia Donaldson adaptations?

Have you been to Kew children's garden? https://www.kew.org/kew-gardens/families

Horizon 22 and then a trip on the DLR was a hit recently with my 3 year-old DS.
Polka theatre in Wimbledon will have a show for her age running - there's also a couple of other children theatres around London.
Deen City Farm near Morden Hall Park and a trip on the tram.

Yes! Legoland for the win! She's got Duplo atm and while it's not her fave thing, she does really enjoy it. Thank you!

Also for anyone else reading this and considering Bekonscot... with a very energetic and curious toddler, we found it tricky. DD was 2.9 months at the time, and just wanted to play with the models. She couldn't really understand why she wasn't allowed. I felt bad saying no all afternoon.

London Aquarium or Science Museum. Followed by a pizza.

ReallyWildShow · 10/06/2025 20:34

Definitely Legoland if you can go on a weekday before the school holidays.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 11/06/2025 18:22

Legoland or Chessington. If she is over 90cm she will be able to do a lot more.

Postal museum is also good, book the play area too as that’s really good fun.

Whipsnade Zoo is also very good, it has a soft play (prebook online) and a large outdoor play area and a little steam train.
