Taking baby to the cinema to see Peppa Pig

I'm currently on maternity leave with DC2 (4 months), and was thinking of taking DD (3yo) to the cinema to see peppa pig, but I'd need to take the baby with me if I go mid week. Is that OK? As it's aimed at very young kids, I'd think it was fine.... but feels wrong somehow!

Most cinemas have baby screenings

CheeseWisely · 09/06/2025 06:06

I used to take DS to Cinebabies screenings when he was that age and they weren’t all kids films! He had no awareness other than the light and colours and napped right through the majority, I say go for it.

MissedItByThisMuch · 09/06/2025 06:07

I’d say it’s fine at a daytime screening of a film aimed at very young kids, whether it’s a specific baby screening or not.

To add I checked with Cineworld at the time to see if I could take him to a ‘normal’ screening and their rules as I recall are yes, during the day, and if it’s a 12A certificate or less.

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 09/06/2025 06:15

Thanks all - I guess my concern is disturbing others if he gets unsettled. I definitely wouldn't take him to an adult/older child film (unless a specific baby screening), but wasn't sure if it would be different for something like this

I’d hope that anyone going to see Peppa Pig isn’t expecting a pin-drop silent cinema in the first place Grin Enjoy OP!

Poppins2016 · 09/06/2025 06:17

I would do it (and have done it). Absolutely fine as long as it's either a "baby friendly" screening or a film for small children.

My top tip/"insurance policy" is to sit right at the back (with easy access to aisle) if you can. It means you can faff/stand with baby if you need to/etc. with minimal disruption to others... Although, having said that, I usually find that baby DD just snuggles in for a cuddle/watches the film too!

doglover92 · 09/06/2025 06:22

I went to see it last week and my DD (just 2) thought it was hilarious to run up and down the front by the screen, then others started joining in 😂 it was carnage! it was very relaxed and not a ‘baby’ specific screening! There was a lady next to me with a very small baby and she was sat near the aisle as someone else suggested and just stood up if the baby got upset x

Nextdoormat · 09/06/2025 06:28

I used to take mine from very little as I had two kids a ten year gap and two more. By aged 3 the youngest used to complain that ppl were talking and eating too noisily during the film. Trained him too well!😂

Fizxy · 09/06/2025 06:32

We went this weekend to see it and lots of people were there with babies so I think it’s absolutely fine. None of the babies seemed to cause any disturbances at all, the toddlers (mine included) on the other hand 😆

MumofSpud · 09/06/2025 06:33

I took 3yo GDG to see this in the cinema recently
It wasn’t full (about 20 people including the adults)

Children’s ages ranged from baby to 7/8

When the baby started crying the mum took her out but she was with another mum who could stay with her toddler.
The 3 year old who started crying stayed in throughout.
But, as other OPs have said, it was Peppa Pig so nobody minded!

SErunner · 09/06/2025 06:34

Absolutely fine. It’s a kids showing. Assuming your baby isn’t going to scream its way through it I wouldn’t worry at all. I took our 3 yr old and 10 week old, we had a lovely time (I sat aisle side of her and closed my eyes in the dark for an hour 😂)

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 09/06/2025 06:34

Thankfully my kids are too old now, but in previous Peppa Pig films shouting out, singing and standing and dancing are encouraged in the films ("Get your grown ups on their feet".) A crying baby would just blend into the chaos and noise. Will be fine. I'd say enjoy but...! 😆

Dingalingalong · 09/06/2025 06:50

I've gone to the cinema twice with my baby, once he was 3mo (DD1 was 3.5) and once when he was 6mo. The first time, baby cried a bit so I left the room a couple of times to walk him around, the 2nd time he slept most of it. I took the baby carrier both times so it was easier to make quick exits when needed. Not sure if it was the best activities for him, but I needed to get out of the house, and my DD was really happy we went too. I say go for it!

Dingalingalong · 09/06/2025 06:51

Just to add, went twice to children's movies of course.

Butdidyou · 09/06/2025 06:53

It'll be fine. Toddlers are just about as disruptive as babies in the cinema so I doubt anyone will even notice.

Overthebow · 09/06/2025 06:55

It’ll be fine for the toddler showings of pepper pig, I took my dd to those type of showings and there were babies there too. The only thing I’d be wary about is you’ll need to take baby out if they are crying, will your dd be ok with leaving the film if you have to?

Allswellthatendswelll · 09/06/2025 07:03

It probably won't be a busy screening mid week and my DS was dancing around anyway whilst the baby just slept on me. Enjoy!

CloverPyramid · 09/06/2025 07:22

Is it a baby-friendly screening or a kids one? If it’s a kids one, I wouldn’t take the baby. We’ve taken our 3 year old to watch Julian Donaldson films and the sound has been normal, loud adult volume. I wouldn’t want a baby sitting through that.

I also wouldn’t trust that they wouldn’t cry constantly. Even if it’s a kids screening, people would still expect you to take the baby out if they were really crying and then what do you do with the preschool child?

Imisscoffee2021 · 09/06/2025 07:25

I'd perhaps take some baby banz if you have any just in case as it can be very loud, and the cinebabies/newbies screenings are played at a lower volume for babies ears and the lights are slightly raised also. A normal screening will be louder, so might be helpful to block some of the noise if it does disturb your baby.

Neighbours87 · 09/06/2025 07:48

I used to work in a cinema it’s fine if it’s a kids film especially something like peppa pig

Edited

I took my baby and it was fine. If she had really screamed I'd have given DS to my friend to look after.
Surely lots of toddler mums also have babies and babies in arms just kind of go where you go.

Oneandanotheroneistwo · 09/06/2025 10:46

Thanks for everyone's opinions. DS is quite a content baby so I'm hoping I could pop him in the sling and he'd just nap through and be distracted by bottle/boob/dummy if needed. And if we go midweek I can't see it being busy. Hmmm

You’ll be fine. Crack on and enjoy the relative peace for an hour!
