TotsBots vs Bumbles - and other questions?

Hi all

Trying to make a decision about nappies - first baby is due in July. We had a nappy 'consultation' with a local seller and she recommended we get Bumbles, maybe supplemented by Bimbles. We don't have a tumble dryer but do have a reasonable amount of space for drying.

But - we have some Amazon vouchers to spend and I have seen that I can get TotsBots organic cotton through Amazon, and they do look very similar and I have read you can do the birth-to-potty thing with the size 2s, like you can with Bumbles.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Also for the first month we can get a free trial of the local nappy service, and were planning to use this, but they do use pre-folds rather than shaped nappies. Is it worthwhile?

Hi, I don't have any experience of either, but I would say just buy one of each and give them a try when the baby arrives. Then decide what you like (e.g. how quickly they dry; how well they fit), so you can buy more of them.

Prefolds tend to be best suited to the early months before the baby gets too mobile - so well worth trying out the free triial if you want to. If you find you get leaks you can pin them thusly.

I personally very much prefer bimbles /bumbles over totsbots but part of that is due to the cost factor. Size 2 tots can be used as btp but they will be VERY bulky for a while. There is a big difference between tots and bimbles / bumbles that you may not have noticed and that is that is that bimbles / bumbles are pouched. This means you can easily boost them if you need to. You can buy microfibre dishcloths from tescos / asda (3 for 89p) that make very absorbant boosters, they fit very well inside bimbles /bumbles and come out of the wash almost completely dry. Also with the bimbles/ bumbles being fleece lined it means you don't have to buy separate liners unless you want to use paper one.

Wrap wise - I would recoomend Motherease - either the airflow (my fave) which have poppers and adjust easily around the waist and leg or Rikki (gussetted velcro wraps)

I agree with MrsJamin that you should get one or two of each and see which you prefer (it is a very presonal choice in the end) then purchase accordingly - in the meantime you can use the free prefolds .

Thanks, that's really useful advice, especially re the boosting! I will get a few samples then and try during the prefold month, before we have to make a decision.

Bumbles are fabulous - the way they popper down for smaller sizes is particularly clever and stops them being quite so bulky.
However if you can face buying secondhand, newborn (size 0) Bimbles are usually in excellent condition because they're used for such a short time and are a lot trimmer on a young baby (and, cause they're smaller, they dry quicker too). Once they outgrow them you can go straight onto Bumbles.

And certainly ME wraps - you can't go wrong with those.
