6/7 month old constantly vomiting

Hi all just wondering if anyone has experienced this.
from around 8 weeks old my baby constantly vomits small amounts, had her first feed at half 6 this morning and since then has been sick around 10 times small amounts each time probably adding up to quarter / half a feed. We’ve tried anti reflux milk, changing milk, feeding less, gaviscon infant, dairy free milk nothing has helped.
Im getting so fed up with her, me and all the floors constantly covered in sick. Weaning hasn’t made any difference.
went to GP and asked for omeprazole who disappeared off for 10 minutes looking for weighing scales but couldn’t find any so then decided it wasn’t reflux.
has anyone got any experience with this?

Go back and push for support from the GP.

I was really annoyed to be honest felt like he just dismissed us because he didn’t have a weight to calculate the dose.
he just said as she wasn’t in distress she’ll just grow out of it.. don’t think he’d have that attitude if it was his carpet getting puked on 30x a day!

My son was like this and he was diagnosed with a rare chromosome syndrome at 18 months. He has hypotonia (low muscle tone) which caused the reflux, his core muscles were not strong enough to support his digestive tract so he kept bringing milk back up. He wasn’t underweight or anything, and otherwise a happy boy. But he had lots of other ‘markers’ for genetic conditions, he sat up late, couldn’t hold his head up properly for a long time, has an unusual buttock cleft shape, undescended testicle, has an unsymmetrical skull, and as he developed missed his development milestones. We just had to ride out the vomiting, almost every cute video I took of him, he ends up vomiting in, and it continued with food as well, gaviscon eventually worked but not until he was bigger around 18 months. And we would have a strict routine of giving him the medicine and sitting him in a high chair for it to take effect. And we switched to giving him his big feeds rights before naps and sleep so once he had fed he would be still and sleep and give the food/ milk a chance to go down.

What dairy free milks have your tried? The initial milks prescribed are still dairy based.
I'd contact the HV to get baby weighed and then go back to the GP to enquire about omperazole again.

Oh gosh that must have been difficult for you! How is he now? Other than the vomiting she’s hitting all milestones so I don’t have any other concerns it’s just the vomiting!

I had this with my dd and she had a tongue tie. Once sorted she was fine .

Keep going back to the GP. Call them everyday if you have to. They are very dismissive and often jump to they will grow out of it.

And mostly a lot of babies do! But that's not really acceptable or helps them or you now.

Also dairy free formulas are hit and miss and one may not agree with baby. We went through about 4 different ones before finding one that my DS could tolerate.

To not even weigh baby though and just dismiss it is unacceptable.

This formula is still dairy based it's extensively hydrolysed so the proteins are still there but broken down.
This is ok for some babies but others still react and need an amino acid formula that is completely dairy free such as neocate or alfamino

It’s not good enough. It’s normal for small babies to posset/ sick, but at that age it’s not normal to be doing it all the time. Could be reflux, but could be something else. Either way further investigation is needed. They need to reassure you they you’re right to seek support.

Hi, my little one is the exact same. He's 4.5 months and does the exact same I'm covered in sick constantly. He's sick little amounts until the next feed.
I've just bought gaviscon infant from a pharmacy online and it's worked wonders when I tried one feed. But I worried bc a lot of advice suggests being aware of salt content in it. Yet loads of people say that's what the GP will prescribe. 🤷

SupposesRoses · 09/06/2025 07:25

My son was exactly the same and all I heard was that it is normal and fine because he wasn’t losing weight (I was losing several pounds a week from all the breastfeeding though, because he was permanently hungry). When I finally got someone to refer him lockdown happened and the appointment was cancelled. He’s seven now and fine, though he does always vomit when he overeats (but he’s learned not to).
