Lost earrings at school

My 8 year old daughter was asked to take off her gold earrings at school. She requested for am envelope to keep it safe and the envelope went missing at the end of the day.

I'm angry and gutted, why was a reminder not sent to take them off but a child asked to remove them at school and expected to safe keep?

Are there no protocol to follow to safe keep valuables bought inadvertently to school?

This happened to my DD too, they were a gift from her grandmother. I took it on the coin as she shouldn't really have had them in (they were recently pierced, but had past the time limit where you can't remove them, I just forgot it was P. E day so it was my fault). I was too embarrassed to make a fuss because I knew it was my fault.

Took it on the CHIN!

Well if you are daft enough to send a child to school with gold earrings then you have to accept that this will happen . I imagine there is something in the school policy about both earrings and valuables. What ‘reminder’ do you expect?

Absolutely this.

@PrincessOfPreschool Same with us, was a gift from her grandmother. I forgot to take them out on a PE day. The teacher found the "bright pink envelope" at the end of school day, lying on the floor. She mentioned along the lines of "I put it somewhere. Lets have a good look tomorrow".

You forgot to take them out. I’m not sure how you’re even attempting to make this the school’s fault.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 06/06/2025 09:32

Teachers are there to teach. Parents are there to care for their child, which includes remembering taking out earrings on PE day. It is your fault the earrings were in a position to get lost.

That’s bizarre. I would be pushing the teacher to remember where she put it.

She’s said she’s going to have a good look for it today, what more can she do?

I have a message from school it's finally been found. Thanks all for taking time to read and comment. 💜

'Pushing' the teacher?..
When she's already said she'll look tomorrow.
I see it's already been resolved but @cheffymcchef2 did you think the teacher had been plotting nefarious behaviour?....

‘Finally’? When did your daughter lose them? Sounds like it was all resolved very quickly.

Seems they were probably found this morning? How DARE that teacher leave the school yesterday before they were found!! 🤯
All staff should have stayed on to do a fingertip search yesterday and not left till they were found!!
Unless.... the teacher had a very naice fancy function last night and she stole the earrings to wear... fortuitously 'finding' them this morning!!😱😱

Do you seriously think the teacher should have to send a reminder home twice a week for you to take out your own child's earrings?!

I'm not surprised the teacher retention rate is so low when they are blamed for utterly ridiculous things like this...

Sounds like a lot of waste of teacher time

Let this be a lesson not to send important jewellery into school and not to leave ear rings in on PE days!

LilyTWilderness · 06/06/2025 14:03

Can't make right for everyone on social media, but I offered to help search multiple times and apologised numerous times for causing all the trouble in the first place. Posted here only after I was told it was last seen by a teacher before cleaners came in. It's been lost for 4 days now.

Thanks all, will turn off now.

Happy (or not!) to have been the serving example !

Dear parent, please note that school will now be closing early on Wednesdays and you will need to pick up your child at lunchtime. Wednesday afternoons will now be the "writing reminders to parents about things we have already told them" time.

Thursday morning the school will open late at 9:30 because that's the time we will be writing reminders that Wednesday afternoons are writing reminder afternoons to all those parents who forgot to pick up their kid.

Thanks.

stichguru · 06/06/2025 14:51

Was she told that she HAD to take her earrings into school?
No - so you sent them in unnecessarily and risked her losing them. If the risk of her losing them wasn't high enough for you not to send them in, then her losing them isn't much of a problem.

PurpleThistle7 · 06/06/2025 15:25

Yeah not the school’s problem. Unfortunately a hard way to learn the lesson!

Never understand the point of these threads. People’s personal opinions on children with pierced ears aside, what did you think this post would do for you OP? What use do you think other people’s opinions are on the specific earrings that got lost in your child’s specific school?
