Does anyone else find that progression in these lessons is totally arbitrary? DD is 8. She started bronze level last year. The teacher told me that because she was younger than the rest of the class and smaller she would be there for a while. As it turned out she was in bronze for about a year, promoted to silver in March and has now gone up to gold. But she can't actually do (and indeed hasn't been asked to try) quite a few of the non-swimming skills listed for silver level, such as sculling, treading water while catching a ball, etc. I don't really mind, since she can easily do the strokes and distances required but why list these as essential skills if your teachers are going to ignore them anyway?
Also, does anyone know what gold level entails? I'm trying to work out whether it would be reasonable to call it quits with the lessons once she has passed it.
