Super absorbing nappies

Hi,
my baby boy will be 6m next Tuesday, weighs 17lb (8kg) and will undoubtedly leak through every nappy at bedtime.

he has a dream feed at 10:30pm and I change his nappy then. He then goes through the night until 7/7:30am. He will always leak through his vest, sleepsuit, grow bag & onto the sheets. I am forever washing and drying his stuff.

i use pampers nappies, I’ve tried size 3,4 & 4+. I tried Sainsbury’s own brand however he came up in a really bad rash around the waist band.

ive tried everything possible
making sure his vest/sleepsuit isn’t too tight
the frills are out around the leg
the waist band are tight and high enough
I’ve doubled nappied him and he still leaks through

He is formula fed & had allergies ruled out. He is not in any discomfort while feeding/afterwards. I plan on weaning him soon. I think he’s teething as he is dribbly, hand in fist/chewing everything and the poos smell acidic. It’s not even a lot of poo, it’s where he has a big wee at night, the nappy absorbs that and then the poo just lays on top & leaks as he moves around.

Hes a very happy baby, but this nappy saga is sending me slightly mad. Does anybody know any super absorbent nappies that can hold wee and a poo in the night time?

Could you try a bigger size nappy so more absorbent with a nappy cover for washables over the top for containment because the elastic will be too big?

What shape is he?

Boots were the best for my long skinny DS. Aldi slightly better for my chunkier one.

Overall I've always found Boots own brand the best nappies.

I use Boots bamboo Little Stories nappies at night. Expensive but very absorbent. You might need to go bigger if you're at the top of the size range.

He’s 17lb and size 4 in pampers is for 20lb+. I’m worried if I keep getting the next size up nothing will be kept in because it will just leak wee and poo.

ill try boots own and see how I get on. It’s literally at night that he leaks and it’s always poo rather than wee.

I like the Tesco ones. Could you try the old fashioned cloth type? More faff with washing but they are apparently much better than disposable

ARichtGoodDram · 05/06/2025 12:35

If it's poo that's leaking it's possible the nappy is too big at the wrong place.

It took ages with DS to find ones that worked well as the shape of most nappies didn't work for a very long skinny baby.

Another option is the old fashioned plastic pants that went over cloth nappies. It might help with leakage at least

Reusable nappies! The Nappy Lady website is so helpful. They can advise you

skkyelark · 05/06/2025 17:09

Definitely consider a reusable wrap over the disposable, even if full reusable nappies are more than you want to consider. They are much better at keeping poo in than disposables, and washing a few wraps is going to be trivial compared to a full set of clothing, sleeping bag, and sheet every night.

You can also add a reusable 'booster' between the wrap and the disposable if you think you need some more absorbency, but it sounds like you maybe just need containment?

I live abroad and have always used Huggies Overnites ones since he was 4 months and started sleeping through the night. They are much more absorbent than the normal ones. Do they have these in the UK, maybe on amazon at least?

JazzyBBBG · 05/06/2025 19:09

Tesco ones used to go quite high up the back on mine and that helped. Aldi were too big as mine were skinny.

Can I say a massive thank you to the person who recommended the boots own brand nappies. We’ve had 3 nights of no leaks! Thank you so much

That's great they're working

They rarely come up on these threads and it surprises me as they are so good!

They are amazing! They are so thick and they don’t leak at all. I would never have tried them if they weren’t recommended

Cloth nappies are much much easier to adjust and to be honest in many ways less hassle if you have a washing machine and tumble drier/line. You will also save yourself a fortune.
