My 16 year old son wants to watch the football in Edinburgh with his friends

I’m sceptical about him going. He’s never been outside the North east by himself never mind a 2hr train to Edinburgh. They are all a responsible group of lads but I can’t help but worry. Am I being too overprotective considering he’s 16 and should I bite the bullet and let him go?

Of course you should let him go! He will be fine if he’s with his mates. Assuming he has been to games before, he will know what to expect. Just don’t wear a Union Jack t-shirt if he’s going to Easter Road…

A 16yo should be capable of getting on a train and finding his way to and from a well known destination.

What are the specifics of this trip that cause you concern?

How far from Edinburgh do you live and how will he get there and back? Is this a day trip or an overnight? How accustomed are he and his mates to travelling around (if they're not, it's time they learned) and how well does he know Edinburgh?

At 16? It's absolutely fine.

Edinburgh is super safe he will be fine

As long as they’re a decent group that won’t be travelling to cause trouble I can’t see the issues.
What team is he supporting and what team is he going to see? Some have worse support in terms of causing bigger and getting into trouble with the police

He wants to go to the hearts stadium (whatever that’s called) to watch Sunderland play a friendly :)

Ah bless him! On the cusp of being a man, excited to get out into the world... definitely encourage him go and have a great day with his friends!

@Safcmam tynecastle is actually a pretty decent ground to go to and playing a friendly is a different atmosphere than a game with more riding on it
if he’s a sensible lad and going with a good bunch he should be fine.
getting to the ground is very easy from the train station, a quick bus journey or even a fairly quick walk for them

I’m a Sunderland fan with a season ticket and a 16 year old ds. I would let him travel no problem. However I have not heard of any match occurring between hearts and Sunderland? Is this a pre season friendly?

He says it’s just rumoured at the minute
