Nappy changes for 13 month old...losing the will!!!

Hi all,

I'm sure this is quite a universal problem but WOW. Trying to get a nappy on my 13 month old is an absolute nightmare 😂she is very close to fully walking (wanders around holding one of our fingers currently) and is fiercely independent. She hates being laid down on her back, and will scream and wiggle away when we try. We have tried doing it standing but that is just so chaotic, and she clamps her legs together and tries to wander away!

I am dreading every change currently!!! Anyone have any tips? I have tried giving her things to hold, singing etc...!

Pull ups

I have tried these too, but even trying to get her legs into the holes is a right faff, she just pulls away and screams!

Well, unfashionable I know, but my first DD was like this so we sat her on the toilet. She bypassed the potty, as she didn't like that either. She was daytime trained within a couple of weeks. Pull ups at night.

Sit her on your knee to put them on. I resorted to cartoons on my phone justifiying it to myself by saying we will be potty training soon. It was all fine

My mum told me she did this with me! I might have to try. How old was your daughter? How did you know when to place her on? Thanks

Sit her on a potty or toilet. Pull ups over her feet before you lift her off. Potty you can also put in the tub (which also contains them!) so you can wash her down easily after. I did this with my son, who is turning 3 in August. He is day time potty trained (largely...but thats another thread...). He was pooping at a regular time every morning so that's what kicked off the unscheduled training but I'm glad I did it.

Sometimes when my kids are messing around I stand them on the toilet or somewhere with a little height so they can't run away! Works well for lots of similar stress inducing tasks ( teeth, changing clothes)

No advice, only solidarity (walking 12 month old). My partner has started sitting our baby on the potty each morning to get LO used to it. No "successes" so far, but I don't think we can stand chasing a half-dressed baby round the house with nappies so it's got to be early potty training :/

13 months too. She was an early walker, 11 months, early talker etc, and was able to ask to go to the toilet at 13 months. I remember clearly as we were at a health visitor group for 1 year olds, who was talking about toilet training etc, and DD got up off the floor and asked to go to the toilet, to general amazement.

I am possibly the same age as your mother? 59? It was still quite early to train even then, but you were encouraged to be done before two, rather than leaving it any later.

Saved hassle later on, and of course saved the expense of nappies!

Oh, I also did the sit on the toilet first thing every morning and before you go out, and after every drink and meal and before bed. They get the idea very quickly.
