Hi All,

Just after some real experiences please! Baby has just had 12 month injections earlier today- few tears but seems fine so far. Nurse said to give calpol to help settle her tonight which we have done and will do a second dose if she wakes up with a temp or seems to need it all fine..
However I didn't realise the chance of side affects 2-3 weeks later and we have booked to go on our first holiday abroad in exactly 2 weeks. I just wondered how many mums experienced reactions in that 2-3 week period and how bad was it for most of you?

Thanks!

Our daughter’s sleep has been disrupted but other than that she seems ok. She had her MMR on May 19th.

My daughter has had it twice now as she's 4 and she did get the measles rash at 10 days both times but was otherwise fine. The first time she had the MMR she came down with chicken pox later the same day and bounced back from both quite quickly

My kids didn't react to it at all. It is possible as it's a live vaccine like the chicken pox one which kids have also had and the didn't react to that either.

We did exactly the same. I didn’t realise the timing of possible side effects until I read the patient information leaflet after leaving the surgery.

We had a very unsettled flight. She was on my lap for most of it and I felt like I had been in a boxing ring by the time we arrived. Then we got to our accommodation and she projectile vomited over herself, me, the bedding, the floor…

She was fine the next day. The flight just happened to be really badly timed! Hopefully your holiday will fall better.

The only reaction we had was in the first 48 hours (it was quite a severe one). I’m sure they probably did get maybe a bit rashy and grumpy at some point later, but nothing that would stop you going on holiday. Just take some calpol with you.

My DD got very unlucky last month and had a bad reaction in first 48 hours (high temp, crying constantly) followed by a full body rash and temp again at 12 days post jabs. Most of my mum friends reported no real issues though so like I say I think we were unfortunate!

skkyelark · 29/05/2025 15:36

No noticeable side effects for either of mine.

AnxiousLurker · 29/05/2025 15:46

DD - now 2 - was absolutely fine apart from sulking for a few hours and shoving her arm in my face! She did get the mini measles though, about a week after. Just red spots but nothing else, no fever etc. If that does happen, just make sure you’re looking out for any other symptoms or doing the glass test to be sure it’s just a reaction and not something else that’s just happened around the same time. We did end up taking DD to urgent care with her spots but mainly because they came up on day 8 and I was told by the nurse who did the jab that it would be by 7 if it happened.

LElle88 · 25/06/2025 20:06

How did it work out for you? We are in the same situation, can’t believe the bad luck with timing!

Peanut91 · 25/06/2025 20:19

My eldest had a nasty reaction about a week post his vaccine and was not well for about a week to ten days after but then my youngest had no reaction at all

FTMobvious · 26/06/2025 07:37

It was all fine in the end worrying for nothing! There was a few sleepless nights around the 11 day Mark and baby felt hotter to me but didn't show as more than 37 on the thermometer so may or may not be related who knows?! No rashes or real temps at all.
Have a lovely time away!
