Ingrown toenail

My daughter is 2 years and 2 months and has always had odd toenails. The big toenails barely grow at all. They've been red and bulging for a while now, but she never complains about them (she has very good speech and will always tell me if she's hungry/thirsty/in pain/uncomfortable in other ways)

I've tried everything I've read online that I can (soaking, fucidin that I had for somethig else, trying to prise the nail away) but the nail doesn't grow enough to put anything under it to keep it from growing into the skin. I did once try to prise the nail away and the nail just crumbled.

I've attached some pics-would you take her to the GP? I don't have a great relationship with my GP and often feel I'm fobbed off by them (both about myself and the kids).

Many thanks in advance

I'd go and see a pharmacist and see what they think- they'll be able to advise whether or not you need to see a GP (I can't see attached photos)

I’d find a good chiropodist (podiatrist) to give you advice on how to look after it x

Thanks both! Will take her to a podiatrist/the pharmacy in the morning!

My son had similar, he barely had a big toenail when he was born as it was so covered by skin! GP referred us to podiatry who said it wasn’t a problem and that as they start walking the nail hardens up. He’s nearly 4 and the edges of the big toe are still a bit odd but don’t appear to hurt him at all.

Pharmacy won't do anything. GP might refer to podiatry but waiting lists are generally very long especially for non urgent. You can pay privately £40-60 for a podiatry review.

Podiatrist... it's what they do all day long.
