Im a week PP with my second baby. My 2.5 year old has been super ill and his dad has got whatever he has since baby has been born. Our tv is always on in the background and he watches it here and there .. never glued to the tv. He normally.keeps himself busy with toys and anything else out of boredom but not this time. Its one of those bugs that will stick around for a while and everyone else.is getting it too. Im a no ipad/tablet person but would I be a bad parent if I gave him one temporarily as he is being so fussy its unbearable especjally since dad is ill too. Going outside etc isn't helping. It will 100% not be permanent regardless of if he gets used to it or not as it will be taken away. But for a short term fix? I know how bad screens are in terms of phones and ipads. Its half term also from tomorrow. Thankyou! Also the things he watches are like hey bear sensory, islamic programs, Miss rachel nothing super stimulating and quite educational which has helped him learn things.

You'll have people telling you it's terrible, but seriously, it's fine. You do what you need to do to get through this time.

Sometimes in life you have to do what you have to do to get through the day!

congratulations on the baby and hope everyone is well soon

The cbeebies apps got us through some tricky illnesses when DD was that age.

We noticed some crappy behaviour after a while so removed and then gradually reintroduced.

I'd say it's fine as long as it doesn't affect their general behavior and they can come off it without a problem!

I’m generally really anti screens and would never buy my children their own tablet/ipad but as a short term solution in the situation you have described I would do what I needed to do to get through it. As long as it’s short term and you monitor what is being watched it’s fine

Amazon fire kids tablet. My 2.5yo has one and hasn't turned into a feral tearaway yet😂 honestly whatever works for you. Ignore the judgy pants who I'm sure will be along shortly

go for it. Some days of parenting is just about surviving. My little boy has 20 mins of screen time a day either miss rachel or Mickey Mouse as he just won’t let me put him down otherwise and how will I ever have time to shower or wash bottles etc!

I will probably get shouted down for saying this, but getting kindle fire tablet for each of my two children was the biggest mistake I ever made. It was the start of a screen obsession (more so for the older one). Now any free time he has, every few minutes he’s asking for more screen time. It’s all he ever thinks about. My advice would be dont do it and hold off as long as you can. My son is 10 now and he’s started asking for a phone. I’ve said no and will be leaving it as long as possible. He also won’t be having a tv in his bedroom. A colleague of mine has a teenage son and told me once that he spends all hours on his phone or tablet gaming, even over night when he should be asleep. I think screens are very damaging for children and wish I hadn’t introduced them to mine.

I genuinely don’t understand why you would. Through every kind of horrendous bug going it’s never occurred to me to get my child a tablet. I recommend the Yoto player, that’s been a big hit with my child since the age of 2 and a half. I think having the TV always on in the background won’t be helping. When we’re in dire straits we have a bit of a TV day, but because it’s rarely ever on the novelty factor is there.

This.
A 2 year old does not need screens. You want them to comply and give you a break but life with little ones isn’t like that.

@Yourethebeerthief I dont think i will be but you're clearly focusing on the wrong part of all the points I made. We've survived many bugs thankyou for that 😂

Not sure why you’re laughing. If you’ve survived many bugs without a tablet then why get a tablet now?

Which bit am I focussing on that’s the wrong part? Your post is asking if you should give your toddler a tablet to help get through a period of illness. I’ve responded to exactly what you’ve asked.
