This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for trike recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best trikes page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

I love the Giant one, DS never actually had one (we had an inferior hand-me-down) but rode round the bike shop on it whenever he got a chance!

we have just got a trike for ds (17 months) from Woolworths, can't remember the make, smooby something?! Anyway he loves it, theres a good lap strap to hold him on and a long pole that you can push him alomg with (later remove). You can also lock the front wheels so he can't steer until later, when he can!

It was £25

I'd say one with the pedals where a bike has them, not on the front wheel.

thankyou for the ideas nd links, you know the long poles? can you steer with them?
perhaps for a 1 year old i need something with bars on the side so she cant fall off?

We have a Winther scooter and it is amazing. They are the ones that playgroups, nurseries have as they are so durable. I think they make trikes as well...

here

what do you think to this??

yes you can steer with the poles, no probs. Re falling off, my son is a bit older than yours but he is fine on it. I suppose it depends how 'sturdy' your little one is?!

The belt is good though and does the job.

shes quite strudy, quite chunky really, but i think she need somthing on the sides to make sure she can't fall

Ones with pedals that work backwards as well as forwards are good too- then when your dd is a bit older and gets herself stuck in a corner you won't have to get out of your nice comfy sunlounger to retrieve her from the patio as she'll be able to reverse herself

DS is now 3.5 so moved on from the parent handle trike stage but fwiw we had a little tykes one that I wouldn't recommend, although the bike itself is sturdy the parent handle gave up after only fairly minimal use.

minkus thats a great point, im liking your style.

does anyone know if the smart trike goes backwards?
