Hi All
I have a young toddler who humps frequently. Is this normal for boys and are there any tips to help him stop?
I have heard boys do thia to help them relax as such but I need to get him out of this habit.
Thank you

Do you mean masturbating?

LoafofSellotape · 23/05/2025 22:34

Distraction!

SunshineIdiot789 · 23/05/2025 22:38

Humping how? My boy is 9 months and sort of humps the bed sometimes, between crawling and trying to do headstands, I don't think they know why and has nothing to do with "adult" humping.

Girls do it too.

Why?

Small children don't make the connections with sexual activity that adults do. They literally don't have the understanding, so there's no need to get your son out of this habit.

It's a phase. They all do it, just as little girls also masturbate.

Ignore it.

Normal for both sexes. There's not much you can do other than either distract and later explain it's a private thing

It just feels nice to them. It's not them doing anything shameful or wrong.

Yeah it's quite common - my friend used to childmind a little girl who would rock and rub against the side of the cot and also in the supermarket trolley seat 😂 best thing is to distract when in public but don't make a fuss about it at home - it's generally something they grow out of or learn to do in private!

Normal . ds still does this now before he goes to sleep to long suffering soft toys . Just redirect to a private space and in DS’s case try and ignore the grunting noises…
