11 month old nasty virus

DD started nursery last wed and Thurs was sent home with diarrhea she was fine in herself at the time but Thurs eve/Fri morn vomited for around 5 hours. Ever since (7 days tomorrow) she's had a temperature on and off and diarrhea 10-15 times per day plus very gunky eyes and generally just not well at all. She is fortunately drinking water but very minimal food and not a lot of formula.
GP diagnosed virus as expected and gave ointment for eyes. Advised we take to A&E if she gets worse.
I took her to A&E yesterday as she became very floppy and vacant and was breathing rapidly plus a lot of bright green vomit. They gave her nurofen which brought the temp (39) down and sent us home advising nurofen and Calpol alternating every 2 hours which we have been doing..However as soon as we are getting close to a dose of medication or if she misses any (she's asleep) then the temperature immediately spikes back to 38-40 within 15-20 mins it's back down but I'm getting really worried that it's been nearly a week and it just doesn't seem to be shifting. She's absolutely shattered and miserable bless her. Any thoughts/advice? Do we just have to ride it out? We knew she'd pick up bugs at nursery but this serious this soon is a bit unexpected!

This doesn’t sound like the usual nursery bugs to me. If you’re at all unsure, please don’t hesitate to take her back to A&E, it’s better to be told she is ok and sent home again even if you’re not offered any additional advice or medication. Hope she is feeling better soon.

That sounds like it could be the current Covid strain. It is hitting a lot of people hard

Thank you @OopsieeDaisy the nursery have issued a statement that they are fighting a d&v bug so it's definitely from there, but I agree it really doesn't seem like your average virus. I haven't had a stomach bug since I was a child and I caught it, for me it was a 24 hour thing DH also had it but was only around 12 hours so it's definitely hitting poor DD a lot harder I imagine because she has not build any immunity yet.
I will of course return to A&E if she deteriorates again but it really was an awful experience that unfortunately did not leave me reassured at all.
That's interesting @ARichtGoodDram I've not heard COVID mentioned in a while tbh but whatever it is its very nasty.

My baby caught rotavirus recently at nursery, despite being vaccinated. The GP had us bring baby back the following morning to make sure they were recovering. I also caught it - absolutely awful, worse than norovirus which went through the house before Christmas!

I can recommend the double action (maybe they are called dual relief? ) Dioralyte sachets, they are suitable from 3 months, they stay down easier than water. They also reduce diarrhoea. You can give 5ml at a time with a Calpol syringe if baby is too sick to keep it down.

If you DO end up in A&E again, ask if they have tested WHICH virus it is. Most hospitals can do dip stick testing for the three most common baby vomiting viruses.

Thanks @OtterMummy2024 sounds like you have had a rough time. The GP did say I could submit a stool sample for testing but he didn't seem to be too bothered and at that time it hadnt been dragging on as long.
I had to demand to be seen in A&E and they were pretty awful tbh so I don't think they'd have tested her for anything even if I'd asked. Just to add I have had a previous experience with her in the same A&E (health visitor referral) and they were amazing. I just wanted to her out of there and so did they, as soon as her temp hit just over 37 they sent us home. In hindsight I should have asked for her to be monitored longer but I just wanted to get her out of there as it was not an environment I wanted to be in.
I did try dioralyte she absolutely hates it but maybe should just make her take it.
