Really ready for potty training?

My 21 month old showed all the signs of being ready to potty train, and in particular was very good at sitting on the potty for 5-10 mins and even managed to do a couple of wees. So we started the next stage a couple of days ago and she managed a couple of wees on day 1 (and several accidents) and then five wees yesterday (plus a couple of accidents). We are using a star chart to reward her and she likes choosing the colour star for doing something in her potty. Today she has been happy to sit on her potty, but as soon as she starts to do a wee, begins to cry and stand up and move away even though she hasn't finished. She also is not showing any signs of saying when she wants to do a wee, but will sit when asked, and understands the words wee-wee, pooh and potty. Should I carry on as I am worried that the more she does in her potty the more distressed she is getting?

Ah bless her. Its such a tricky time isnt it? My dd1 was the same, we tried her the same time and she seemed to do quite well, then totally refused to do it and got upset. On reflection it was a bit early for her and we put the potty away. Just after her second birthday she said Mummy I want to wear pants and wanted to sit on the toilet. We decided to go for it and she skipped the potty and went straight to a toilet seat. She took about 4-5 days and mastered it. We bought a fantastic toilet seat from e bay made by Lipski for about £15 and she is now 2 and half and takes herself to the toilet ( i still have to wipe her) , but this seat is fantastic, its got steps and a seat combined. I found Gina fords book was helpful, 'Potty training in one week ' i think its called.

If she continues to get upset, personally i would leave it for a while and try again another time. 21 months is still quite early, so dont worry, they all seem to do it in their own time. Best of luck to you

I wonder why she is upset. Would the potty pinch her skin? Does she get upset when she has an accident? Is she upset when you flush the wee away? I think you'd be better giving it a little break if she gets upset.

I don't know if htat would help, but we 'qualify' DS' wee. It's a bit far fetched but stay with me. His language is quite good so we started saying 'oh look, that's a wobbly wee', or 'that's a monster' wee' or 'that's a really really cute wee' when he'd stand up. So he was always looking forward to standing up and seeing which 'type' of weewee he'd done. It's a bit crazy, I know! And he came up with all sorts of words to 'qualify' his weewee. Also, he loves flushing it down the loo.
