Mould on terry nappies/wipes, what to do about it?

I dry pail the nappies and wash every third day. I have just pegged out a load on the line and the cotton terry fabric nappies and the wipes have what looks like little spots of mould on them. The other nappies are different fabrics (hemp/bamboo/microfibre) and don't seem to be affected. I know, I know I should really be washing more regularly as it's getting warmer and the pail is pretty stinky by wash day. Do I boil wash the affected nappies or can nothing be done? any advice appreciated.

Don't boil wash - you could ruin the elastic.

Lavender oil is an anti-fungal agent so you could try adding a few drops to a wash of all the affected nappies (just add to the softener compartment) and wash at 60C. You could place a piece of fabric with a couple of drops of the oil on it inside the bucket and see if that helps keep the mould at bay in future. Keep oil away from the wraps though or it will degrade the PUL.

Alternatively you could try a nappy sanitiser like 'onelife' or bicarb in the wash to try and get the mould off. Make sure the nappies are completely dry before you start any remedial action as that will set the mould back a bit as a starting point.

Great, thanks for the advice. I must admit I was going to wade straight in there with a boil wash but decided to line dry them as is until I could get some tips on treatment. I didn't know about oil damaging the PUL wraps, I always put a few drops in the nappy bin to keep it smelling fresh.
