Baby was face down on shoulder- very worried

My mum was holding my 13 week old and I sort of heard her breath loudly. My mum jokingly said "did you know your daughter snores?". It was like Darth Vader breathing.
Looked over and her face was(nose and mouth covered) buried into my mums shoulder. Now terrified of C02 rebreathing or some other un-thought-of damage.

Obviously moved her head and she is now breathing normally

Please talk me down

She’ll be fine.

PlanetOtter · 14/05/2025 22:03

She’ll be totally fine. That’s how babies have slept for ever.

She'll honestly be totally fine. You heard her breathing heavily, you moved her head and now she's looking normal. All is well.

Babies snuggle in, it's what they do x

IShouldNotCoco · 14/05/2025 22:04

dont worry - she’d have been struggling if she couldn’t breathe.

BethDuttonYeHaw · 14/05/2025 22:05

She will be fine. Was just having a nice snuggle.

user101101 · 14/05/2025 22:07

Is she acting as per usual? Then she’s fine

Now terrified of C02 rebreathing

I have literally never even heard of this.

Do you have anxiety issues generally?

Maddy70 · 14/05/2025 22:10

Perfectly normal. Babies have slept like that for millions of years I would look to address your over anxiousness. Has this just emerged since having your baby or was it before too? Maybe worth a chat with your health visitor

splendidpickle · 14/05/2025 23:14

Yes, babies like to snuggle in, but at 13 weeks don't mum's usually make sure that the heads angled so their airways are free?
But also, no, this won't cause your baby any lasting harm. It's natural to worry as a new mum, but do try to talk to someone if you find yourself feeling really anxious.

This.

Your baby is fine.

Your reaction / concern is much more worrying.
