Accidentally bought Nappy Pants for 6 month old..

I have accidentally bought size 4 nappy pants for my 6 month old
I always thought nappy pants were to transition to underwear for potty training children.
I didn’t realise they did them in size 4 too.

Whats the benefit for them instead of taped nappies at this age? Wondering whether I should stick to taped or will I be converted to nappy pants?!

It will be for babies who can stand. It is easier to change them standing sometimes.

size 4 could be for a 6 month old, all the way up to a year or more depending on how big the baby is:

Size 4 is pretty big for a 6mo, my 2yo was still in size 4 pull-ups and she’s fairly chunky! She’s almost 3 and still in 5s overnight. I don’t think many people use them with babies that young, although no harm in it, I just don’t think there’s any real benefit at that age.

I think with younger babies the nappy pants are more of a pain as you have to take their bottom half off entirely to change and at that age they are still lying down for changes anyway so I don’t feel there’s much benefit over standard nappies. Pants are better when you reach the stage with toddlers where they don’t want to lie down for changes or want to help change their nappy themselves.

Like @CRbear says really. My DS walked at 10 months so nappy pants were a bit easier. Downside is I don't rate their ability to keep everything in as well!

My daughter was in size 4s when we started potty training at 2.5, I think she was about 18 months when she went into them.
I found they were easier for wees worse for poos. We clothed nappies the majority of the time so didn't use that many disposables but as my daughter had loose stools with found the traditional nappy shape better for day time and pull ups for overnight.

None of mine used pull ups to transition to potty training. They are just like nappies so I honestly can’t see how they help at all in helping a child potty train. We used pull ups once our child could stand. If it’s just a wee nappy, so much easier to change them stood instead.

We used nappy pants at 8 months. My DS was a very fast crawler and thrashed like no tomorrow. The pants were just easier than trying to wrestle him to get the tapes done up properly. We could have managed with taped nappies, just easier not to.

After the newborn stage I always used pants because they're stretchier and just seem more comfortable than the ones with the tabs. They're a bit annoying out and about in that you have to take trousers off to put a fresh one on but then everything about nappies is a bit annoying.

Are they the pull up potty training nappy pants or the proper nappies which just have very stretchy sides? I used those for dd2 from very small, I remember the Pampers one in particular absorbing a lot at the front and they were great for overnight. And easy to get one when she got to about 8 months and wriggled a lot during nappy changes.

Boy or girl?

For a girl, in summer, you may find nappy pants easier if she wears a lot of dresses.

With trousers and tights they are a pain in the butt because you have to remove said trousers etc. but for a dress, especially if it's a wee, flip up dress, pull it down or rip off the sides and you're ready for wiping. So easy.

I'd be surprised at size 4 at this age though.

I started using nappy pants when mine moved around more as I could put them on easier while they were standing or crawling around. They were probably around 6 months old. I found it stayed on better than nappies when they’re moving about more, maybe because of the elastic allowing more movement and also you can just adjust it back to normal without having to faff about with the tabs.

Devilsmommy · 09/05/2025 11:19

My little one was in them at 6 months because I couldn't stop him escaping the changing mat🤣 he walked at 8 months so way easier to change standing up

Exactly this. Mine was in pull up pants as soon as possible which was about 4 months if I remember rightly. They have a lovely stretchy waistband all around. I hate the look of nappies with tabs, they look so uncomfortable. He was a wriggly little guy and then crawling fast by 6 months and pull up pants move with their body.

This.

We found nappy pants (not pull-ups) also stayed on better with all the rolling around and crawling). We're back on normal tab nappies now he's walking (and they're easier to change while standing up especially when in shoes)

How come everyone is surprised with size 4?
Minimum weight is 7kg which is what my daughter is at 6 months?
