I give up bedwetting?

My son is ten and he still wets the bed most nights? We just buy him the big kid pull-ups. He's been to his gp and he's good medically. I hate that he still wakes up wet it's a major blow to his confidence. Anybody else have kids bedwetting?

Yeah I know someone who was bedwetting well into her teens. She grew out of it in her late teens.

My son wet the bed until about 11/12, eventually he was put on some medication after a referral to the bed wetting team ( sorry can't think of the real term!) he fully stopped by 13 and no longer takes any medication

I don't know how much you know about bed wetting in older children but the Eric website was so helpful to us. Ds was finally dry reliably in year 6 when he started producing vasopressin which is the hormone that suppresses urine production at night. We medicated him with Desmopressin for holidays and he was dry on that so we knew that was the underlying cause.

To be honest though the fact that there are pull ups in older boy's sizes shows how many children are going through this. It still seems to have a stigma to it. We did everything, the alarms, measuring fluid in and urine output. We had bedding that was easy to change and also wash and dry. Incontinence sites are good for bedding protection. Just know he is not alone in all of this.

My son asked to try one of the alarms when he was getting too big any nappies (we lived abroad and couldn't get the pants for larger children - he'd have been about 8 or 9) , and that sorted him in 3 nights (very, very rare occasions since - but just of a little start before he wakes up and goes to the bathroom, not a full flood)

The first 2 nights were pretty horrible for both of us - as you can imagine, being suddenly awoken by a horrible alarm mid-wee is pretty discombobulating, but it really worked - I think I got it through Eric as mentioned above.

Ask to be referred to the child continence team. They will support and provide equipment and if that fails they will see if you all would like him to be put on desmopressin. It is really common and for many kids who have night wetting it is due to a delay in their kidney releasing the hormone they need to stop producing urine overnight. It kicks in eventually!

Opposite with mine...wetting accidents during the day. Neither are great if your DC are primary aged. I hope you find a solution OP. My washing machine is never off!

Yes my eldest eventually stopped naturally at 10. Alarm didn’t really work. Tablets were good, was on them for one school residential without problems but couldn’t stay on them indefinitely. Youngest is 7 and still extremely wet every night - driving me mad but at this point not bothering them at all. So I think docs might be a waste of time at this point if DC is not interested in putting any effort in.

I feel a bit unlucky to have had two late bedwetters (although there’s worse problems to have) - wonder if there is something genetic/ hereditary at play as apparently their dad was the same.

We had success with one of the Rodger bed wetting alarms that are built into a pair of boxer shorts.

Eric website etc. was also helpful.

Good luck.

Yes mine stopped at 14 had started medication for it the year before which reduced wetting by 50% then just grew out of it as his body matured

I feel that they finally become conscious that they are bedwetters when they finally realise all their friends have been dry for years.
Sometimes they don't get it until they're well into their teens and the embarrassment of being a bedwetting teenager makes them try harder to stay dry.
Especially when they get interested in sex.
Can't be a bedwetting love machine, can you?
