Hi All,

I have applied to do a PGCE and fingers crossed i'll get in.

I just wondered if there were any other parents of young children doing a PGCE. Do you still get to spend quality time with your kids or is a PGCE as mad and busy as i think it is from what i have read??

I've just applied too, so will be watching this intently

I've got a place for September, am reliably informed by one and all (teacher friends and relatives and course tutor!) that it'll "kill me", "be very hard work" and gobble up every evening and w/end.

My dh is doing a PGCE at the moment. We rarely see him! But having said that, the course wasn't quite as intense as we had been warned... They say that your first year teaching after the course is much worse. Now dh struggles to plan two lessons a few times a week, but I can't imagine what is going to happen when he has to plan six every single night of the week.... Good luck, though. How old is your child?

Hi, thanks for the quick replies!

If i am lucky enough to get in, my DS's will be 4 and 2 then so as you can understand i still want to be able to make alot of time for them.

Oh well, i could always study during the night, who needs sleep!!

Will be worth it in the long term i'm sure!! I'm sure many other parents have managed it in the past!

I didn't do it with children, but I did do it while writing up my PhD thesis, and it wasn't as bad as all that.

And yes, the first year is harder...

DH did PGCE whilst kids were 5 & 6, it was a bit mad but he got to see them far more than when he was in his previous job. I was also studying for degree.
Definately first year of teaching more chaotic
