Double pram help?

NoSleepMum7 · 06/05/2025 11:12

We’re due our second baby in August, our son will be turning 2 in July, so we are thinking we will likely need to get a double pram. Our toddler is a sprinter, so having him just walking beside us is probably not an option for us to begin with until he’s a little older.

We obviously don’t really want to spend thousands on one as we don’t intend to have a third baby at any point but just need something reliable and decent for while baby is super small. Just looking for recommendations on what people have used and actually got on with!

My little girl was 23 months when my second was born. I couldn’t recommend the out n about Nipper anymore if I could! There’s an option to add a carry cot to it which I thought would be too small but was actually perfect for my baby. Its lightweight and fit through doors easily.

Took it on holiday recently and it was great for moving around because it has big sturdy wheels. Only downside is I wouldn’t say there was enough basket space, there’s plenty of places to store items but I found I was carrying the changing bag a lot of the time.

Thank you! Will have a look into this one 😊 Ive been looking online but would obviously rather get some actual opinions before buying one

We had a second-hand Mountain Buggy Duet, which is similar to the Out n About, maybe slightly narrower for fitting through doorways. The basket on it is humungous. Either are probably quite easy to sell on when you've finished with them.

Having just done a lot of research on this: out n about double nipper

I got a second hand mountain buggy duet, again due to the width. I spend a lot of time at my local national trust and needed to fit through the doorways!

2 years old is old enough to walk, unless he has physical disabilities or special needs you dont need a double pram Smile

Our main reason for wanting a double pram is so that we can have him in there too when either he gets tired or one of us can’t keep up with him any longer. The times I’ll be on my own with him I can’t really risk having to leave the baby in the pram to chase him around when he’s sprinting here there and everywhere or end up having to carry him if it’s too much walking, alongside pushing a pram.

No advice OP but following for interest. My son was 2 in April and new baby due in July. After lots of research, we're going to buy an out n about but can't decide whether to get a double or not. My son walks well but can decide he's going another direction or that he'll have a seat and not walk at all or wants a carry, which just doesn't work when you're trying to get about. We're wondering whether we really need a double or if we can cope without it. I'm coming down on the side of getting a double but worried about how often I'll use it given son will be in nursery all through my maternity and will only maybe need it at weekend.

My little girl is a great walker, she’s never really in the pram now so we don’t often use a double but for the first while she needed it and so did I! Chasing after a 2 year old was a lot whilst also recovering from having a baby.
When she was tired, having the double pram was great because I could pop her in it and not need to worry about carrying her.
I could also put shopping in her pram seat if she didn’t want to go in the pram (obviously safely away from the baby)

I don’t regret buying a double buggy and I know many of my friends are the same, they just sell them on once they are finished with them.

We had a Phil and Ted's double which worked really well for that age gap - baby could lie in the cocoon while my eldest could sit on top, it's the same width as a normal single (although bigger than the compact buggy we were used to) and it converts back to a single for later use. As she got older my youngest complained about being in the bottom seat, but by then the eldest didn't need to use it.

I liked having a double buggy as an option as it meant my eldest could continue to nap on days out (she napped until school age). I don't think it's healthy to discourage naps for small children, which is what happens when they have no place to nap on trips out.

Yeah, a twatty old man once said this to me when I was pushing my two year old in a buggy. He didn't know how far we were going and how quickly we needed to get there, though.

It's important for when others, like Nanny or grandparents, are wheeling your children to have the option of having oldest in a seat belt if they are misbehaving.
The other safety option could be to have a scooter or seat attachment and also have your two year old wearing a safety strap and reins that you can hold..

2 is old enough to go on buggy board, no?

I had 2 under 2 and go the iCandy double peach. Was about £1400 though.

Then I switched to buggy board for the older one.

I have a 12 week old and an almost 3 year old. I thought I could do without a double, but I'm finding myself restricted in what I can do without one. I don't feel confident going far on my own with both kids as my toddler will inevitably get tired and want carrying, which is hard to do while pushing a pram!

I'm picking up a city tour 2 from marketplace later today. I like the fact it folds up small for the boot. Might be a colossal waste of money, but figure I can sell it on again.
