No not at all, I worry she will constantly pull her hat off, pull her dummy clip off and chew the clip, she’s going through a stage of taking her arms out of the straps and attempting to undo the buckle.. need I go on

Time to get rid of the dummy at 1 year old.

As a matter of fact I don’t leave the room when my DD is awake, she is constantly falling and banging herself whilst I’m supervising god knows what she’d manage to do without me there

How do you visit the lavatory?

minnienono · 05/05/2025 22:21

I turned mine at 6 months, no issues at all

So then don’t change to forward facing! It’s REALLY not that big a deal 😂

Wait, aren't you the one who thinks it's selfish to have a baby parent facing 🤔

This is honestly one of the most over anxious classic mumsnet posts I’ve seen.

Yes.

BoredZelda · 05/05/2025 22:23

Mine was parent facing until she was about two and a half. She loved chatting with me about the world around us. I much preferred this to facing her forward.

Omg.

Everyone should do whatever they want with their own babies and their own strollers, and take everything seriously at all time, giving everything and everyone their fullest attention at all times, and most of all never let a gotcha moment pass them by especially one which might come from a brief moment of levity on a totally unserious topic 🤦‍♀️

minnienono · 05/05/2025 22:26

@Albumcoverfilm

my eldest hated facing me too, she was curious about the world, nosy! She loved interacting with other people too. By 8 months we were mostly using the buggy for convenience anyway which is forward facing only, no ramps on buses back then - steps!!

Ariela · 05/05/2025 22:26

Provided you TALK to your baby, and have a conversation I cannot see it matters which way they face. I often used to just stop and point things out like birds, flowers different plants or trees, different vehicle types etc, what they're called and how to recognise them etc
Don't do what 80% of parents seem to do that go for a walk - have their phone on / earphones in, ignoring baby completely.

itbemay1 · 05/05/2025 22:27

poor baby. It’ll be good for her to look at the world! Anxious parents make anxious children.

Mumofoneandone · 05/05/2025 22:28

I always preferred having my little one facing me (except maybe when trying to get them to sleep!!) Absolutely no problem if you prefer to have that close interaction with them.
I always had pushchairs that could face parent or the world (apart from the last which only faced forward and son was a lot older anyway) so could use a mixture.

I’m not the one saying it, research studies are and they will have considered the points you raise in their design.

My SIL is a Speech and Language therapist, she said the same thing to us, it’s much better for language development to have them parent facing. My daughter spoke really early and really well so it fits with the statistics, but whether it made a difference I’ve no idea..

FancyCatSlave · 05/05/2025 22:30

It doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I used to mix it up - short runs forward facing then back to parent.

TheSilentSister · 05/05/2025 22:31

My DS had forward facing until he was around 5. He was diagnosed ASD at 5 but suspected before then. I wanted to keep up the conversation and to engage him. It worked for us. Each to their own, whatever feels right.

WorthyOtter · 05/05/2025 22:31

I just have a little peak round now and again, don't even need to stop. He loves facing out, sick of seeing our faces by now 🤣

SnakebitesandSambucas · 05/05/2025 22:32

I loved having mine facing me, in the single and double. We sung songs etc. I also paid attention to them. Don't get me wrong I did use my phone when I needed to. But I did take my headphones off and talked and interacted with them. They also loved talking and interacting with strangers as well on the bus. Each kid is different though. I loved my prams though, I did try the slings but could never get comfortable using one.

She does actually use her dummy, never has but in her pram she often likes to play around with it

I put her in her cot? Is that not normal, do people leave their crawling/toddling babies and go off?

OP posts:
nottheplan · 05/05/2025 22:33

What on earth do you think will happen to her , she's still in her pram with you pushing her. Seriously 🤣

Mmmkaay · 05/05/2025 22:33

You think this is bad, just wait until she's passed her driving test.

JoyousEagle · 05/05/2025 22:34

So don’t turn her then? I don’t really understand the issue. It’s not like you have to. Unless she’s outgrowing a pram and then next one you have is forward facing?

Sorry. You said you never left her alone. So you do, when needed.

I obviously meant alone with free reign to wander around

JoyousEagle · 05/05/2025 22:43

I know I’ve just said you should just not turn her (and I stand by that, if it’s worrying you) but thinking about it, do you know why this feels worse to you than in the car? I assume she’s still rear facing? I know there’s an element of necessity in the car, and safety in going to override concerns about her looking the other way, but that must reassure you that actually she isn’t going to come to any harm simply because she’s facing away from you?

But as I said, this isn’t a problem that needs solving, because you can just not turn her round.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 05/05/2025 22:45

I never put mine forward facing, always had parent facing. I think it's important for many reasons.
