Am trying to avoid CBeebies becoming the default, as I’m afraid it was through most of the winter when I also had a newborn.

Mine is Y2 now, but it hasn’t really changed much. Some days we would go to the playground or the library or we’d be running the older one around to activities. If we were actually at home, it is a mix of playing outside or watching tv.

Honestly, they need to decompress. They’re tired. They don’t need more activities. They just need free time. At the moment, because it doesn’t get dark at 4pm and it’s not raining, that’s almost always playing outside straight away and having a snack. He’ll come inside closer to 6/6:30pm to watch tv, we have dinner about 7:30pm. Sometimes he might watch tv first and then go outside. If it’s raining, he just watches tv and will also do a bit of lego. Mostly, it’s just downtime. I don’t really do anything particularly structured.

We go to the park after school on the way home as they need to run.

we used to stop at the playground for a bit. I’d have brought a snack. Pick up wasn’t til 4pm so once home (about 5pm) it was not that long before supper. I don’t recall having the tv on before supper so I guess they just play. After dinner I found the Cbbies actually quite good in winding them down and as it ended kids knew it was time for bath, story and bed!

Mondays gymnastics, Tuesday and weds after school club til 5 then home play eat bath bed, Thursday dance, Fridays park on the way home then out for tea. I let her watch as much kids tv as she wants in between all this, I don’t get why some people are so hung up on it!

Thanks all. I’m honestly not meaning to sound judgey about telly. I just feel like we’ve had an awful lot of it lately and that it’s become an automatic habit to just turn it on to see what’s on whenever we’re at home.
