Are any shoes ok for baby’s first pair?

My DD recently turned 1, she is starting to hold onto things and walk, she currently wears soft bottom shoes but now I need to get her a normal pair, I’ve been looking at Mary Jane’s, can I get from anywhere I.e next, or is it recommended to go somewhere like Clark’s still?

They have soft toe bones. I would always get them measured to ensure they fit correctly and don’t cause any damage.

Wait until she is walking confidently and not holding onto furniture etc
I always brought mine to a shoe shop to be properly measured and fitted. Start Rite are a good brand.

As long as the shoes are soft & well fitting. Get them measured for sure. Don't buy firm leather for the first pair (or first few years). Baby's feet have a lot of development to do and as they start to weight bare their bones strengthen. But they need space to expand as their foot makes contact with the floor and they push down.
So as soft as possible, and when ever the shoes aren't needed then remove them for bare or socked feet.

The soft bendable cruiser shoes only and only when you really need them (outside on gravel, etc). When mine got their first shoes, we were told no shoes at all until properly toddling around not holding onto things. Then only the flexible cruiser shoes. No hard soles at least for the first pair, possibly two. Get them properly fitted at a store that is used to fitting children’s shoes.

Agreed. DS wore Bobux Xplorer shoes outside, they are fab. And just little soft leather slipper type shoes indoors. Nothing stiff or hard soled.

Starting to cruise she shouldn’t really have proper shoes yet, wait until she is confidently walking by herself. Get the soft soled pre-walkers, but bare foot is best for now apart from when out and she wants to walk.
