4 month sleep regression!? Help with baby’s sleep

Hi,

my baby is 4 months and has never “slept through” or slept longer than 3 hour stretches during the night with multiple wake ups, but over the last few weeks has been waking up 30-60 minutes all night! :( she goes down at around 7pm I’ve tried to move bed time a little later to see if that helps but she gets so tired and is really ready for bed at 7pm. She has a routine of bottle, bath then bed every night.

she falls asleep quite easily at 7 but then wakes up around 30/40 minutes after falling asleep and then keeps doing the same thing all night, I don’t always get her to of the cot to re settle, sometimes a pat and a shush helps her to fall back asleep but she then only sleeps for 30-40 mins before waking again.

does anyone have any similar experience / advice please? So exhausting x

Hi! 4 month regression hit us HARD (my DD just turned 1 but I remember it clearly!)

We actually bit the bullet and hired a sleep consultant who helped us establish a loose routine based around 3 naps. This helped massively as in our case DD was often sleeping far too much in the daytime and then not sleepy enough over night! They also helped us do some very gentle sleep training that essentially involved making sure DD fell asleep in her own cot (we had been feeding and rocking to sleep before, and it was just chaos) - there was pretty much no crying involved, we just took it very slowly and after a few days we saw huge improvement.

We also worked out when she was waking up hungry at night (at this age she still needed a feed at c. 10pm and c. 3am) and this helped us know when to feed or try and resettle.

Ultimately I don't think there is a magic solution unfortunately, as some children are just naturally better sleepers than others, but I do think working out how much day sleep vs night sleep they need and promoting some sleep "hygiene" can help!
