Chickenpox!

Found out yesterday that there has been an outbreak of chickenpox at DS’s nursery the last couple of weeks (he is 13mo). He’s been in 3 days this week. Is it worthwhile taking him for vaccine today if I can get an appointment or should I just ride it out now he is likely exposed?

Oh he will have been exposed alright!

don’t bother op

Make sure you have camomile lotion in, oats for an oat bath and calpol

I had one who felt ill
The other barely registered had it

Are you talking about his 13 month scheduled vaccinations, including MMR?
Or a private CP vaccination?
To be honest, if you can, I'd see if I could delay, if the former; MMR can cause reactions ( entirely normal and to be expected) from 7- 10 days after vaccination, ( typically, amongst others, a bit of a temperature, achiness, maybe a slight rash, a mild virus-type presentation).

To have that on top of CP could be a bit grim.

There is a potential protective benefit of cp vaccine following exposure so yes I would

I would get him vaccinated if you can, absolutely.

Sorry, don't know if you're in the UK or not.
Places like Australia have the Varicella ( CP) vaccine as part of their National Immunisation Schedule but it's not available here, unless private, until next year.

Vaccination after exposure is supposed to help against catching it or can minimise the effects if he does get it.
You'd need to pay privately for it. They can have it either on the same day as MMR or need a gap of 4 weeks between MMR and varicella (i think)

He’s had his MMR 3 weeks ago, so likely will need to wait to pay for a private chickenpox vaccine.

Yes, its 4 weeks between those vaccines
