Colic stories of hope please!

DD2 is six weeks old. At three weeks, she started screaming the house down at 6pm. Now, she's fussy on and off throughout the whole day.

I'm recovering froma birth injury and meant to be resting, but spend all day walking / bouncing. I feel physically and mentally broken.

Nothing soothes DD, we're just giving cuddles and going through the motions, but PLEASE can I hear some stories of hope that this hideous phase will end!?

Hello! Babies are tough- keep going! I’m on my second baby. My first baby did exactly the same thing. We called it the witching hour and just battled through. My second baby started with the evening screams and I did not want a repeat of the first. I now do a bedtime routine and put him in bed around 6:30. He has a bath when the screams are due to start and this is a good distraction, clean sleepsuit, very quick book and then nursing to sleep in the dark. I think the scream’s was just because he was so tired. We co sleep so it’s a bit easier to put him down. But I’ve been doing this since he was 8-9 weeks old. It’s also meant that my partner and I have a hour or so to ourselves, once we’ve tidied away the carnage of the day. Might be worth trying. Good luck!

Oh goodness! I remember colic. My dd was text book. It started at 4 weeks and she would howl after bath time for anywhere between 1 and 4 hours before falling asleep exhausted. Then it ceased completely at 4 months. It was horrendous and it felt like that 3 months went on forever. I just remember some nights sitting in the dark holding her and quietly sobbing. She soothed a little some times if I walked up & down the stairs with her over one shoulder. I really should have lost the baby weight quicker considering the steps I did.
All I can say is it will end & try to get help/respite from friends, family or partner. You’re not doing anything wrong, just keep comforting your baby & you’ll get through it.

I've heard the stairs trick, and it does seem to work for my DD2 too (again, over my shoulder!). It's just a pain with having to keep her downstairs during the worst of the shouting, to avoid waking my toddler in the evening.

Have you got a sling? That saved my sanity when my first went through this, so I could at least have my hands free while I walked around with her. Going out for walks with her in the sling sometimes got her to sleep too.

Stretchy sling has been a God send round the house! Although I'm not meant to be using it while recovering from a birth injury. I might send DH out for a walk with it this evening.

Absolutely send DH out! I used to thrust my baby at my DP as soon as he came in from work, even if it was raining - baby carrier on, everyone wrapped up in the kangaroo coat, out they go! Guaranteed nap.

My daughter started with silent reflux and has multiple food allergies. The screaming started at 3 weeks just the odd time but as the weeks went on it got worse by 6 weeks it was through out the day, by 10 weeks it was most of the time 16+ hours a day.
She was 17 weeks by the time she was diagnosed and on high dose omperazole and me going dairy and soya free started our journey out of the fog although it wasn't a linear journey. We had been fobbed off for a long time about colic and babies cry some times there's a medical reason.

I see you OP, I'm just cuddling with DD2 who is 9 weeks old and very colicky. DS1 had it too so it isn't new to us but boy I'd not missed this!
Like you my little one seems uncomfortable and it's worst at night/during the evening although she does scream a lot during the day too. Evrytime she passes gas effectively she gets upset.

I've tried infacol but, just like for DS1, it did pretty much nothing - and she hates the taste! Recently started her on Gripe water as she's now old enough and it does seem to help a bit. With DS1 it really truly stopped when he started on solids (around 5.5months for us), like the flick of a switch. I know it sounds like a long way away (!), but I'm counting days with you - IT WILL get better I promise!

It helps massively to know other people are going through this too! I really hope it passed for you much sooner than 5 months this time!
