DD missing one lateral incisor

Hi! My DD is missing one lateral incisor and the orthodontist has given us two option: close the gap and possibly file the canine or open a gap and put a Maryland bridge. Has anyone had this? What did you chose? What would you recommend?
thank you!

We haven’t decided yet… for now we are going to do the first stage of widening the arch and then we will decide, but I think we are going to go with getting an implant because the teeth are already moving towards one side.

Thanks for the reply, hope it all works out well for your DD.

I’m honestly not sure, it’s a hard choice.
They also gave the option of removing the other lateral incisor and closing both gaps for symmetry.

Yes, we also have that option… it’s really tricky to decide!

Hi there,

I have similar situation here. My daughter (10) has 2 missing lateral incisors and NHS dentist said solution is to remove another 4 of her teeth and close gaps with braces then file the incisors to shape them to look flatter.
I’m very opposed to this as I had 4 teeth removed as a child and I did have all my adult teeth. As a result I have too few teeth to fill my smile which is quite wide. My daughter would have even less as she’d be missing 6 teeth after extractions!

I’m keen to hear from people who can recommend an orthodontist who would support a temporary bridge approach followed by implants in adulthood. Or from people who have had successful treatment like this. Are adult implants a real pain or worth it?
thanks
