1 yo baby only drinking milk

I took my baby on a 12 hours flight to visit my family on the other side of the world. So far, we are only on the second week of a three months long trip.

Normally, the baby eats 4 times per day. He eats puréed food, yogurts, fruits, pasta, cookies, etc. He has very little milk, mostly in the morning with some cereal. Since we have come here, he has refused the food and drinks milk 4-5 times per day. I offer him cookies, pasta, mashed potatoes and fruits. He takes a few bites and then pushes it away.

I am not sure if this is useful information, but he got a new tooth the third day of our trip.

Could he be teething? Or maybe it’s the jet lag? Maybe it’s the change of temperature that has made my baby lose his appetite? Back home, we had a nice weather of around 15-18C and here is 34-36 C.

Despite this, my baby is playing and having the time of his life. He laughs and smiles a lot. He is curious about his surroundings. He has a lot of energy. He loves to stand up and asks to be held so he can walk around the house.

I am sorry this is all over the place. I don’t know what to do. I feel like he should be eating more solids, but I don’t know how to make him eat more. My family is telling me to relax because the baby is behaving normally. Should I take him to a doctor? What should I do?

I suspect it’s the combination of the temp and teeth. My 1 year old is a great eater but when it’s super hot his appetite goes. Is it milk or formula your baby is drinking? If it’s formula, I wouldn’t worry at all, and would assume it will sort itself out before long.

I would give it a bit longer and see how he adjusts. Could be combination of all the things you mention and just being out of routine and in an unfamiliar place. Has he got a comfortable high chair? Mine was a bit younger (9 months) when we took her across the world to see family and she went completely off food for the first week or so (of course 9 months is different to 12 months as milk is expected to still be a major part of their diet).
