I am expecting second baby in June. I want to be more prepared this time. Can you suggest a book that worked for you with the new born especially with the sleep and crying.

Thanks xx

Three in a Bed by Deborah Jackson and What Mothers Do (Especially When It Looks Like Nothing) by Naomi Stadlen.

Congratulations on your new baby!

Probably not much use to you, but I’d genuinely recommend avoiding all books and social media and just going with the flow, at least initially.

I only say this because I tied myself in knots with my eldest when they wouldn’t follow what the books said. I was so tearful and anxious. He was totally fine, but just doing his own thing. Baby three is now four weeks old and I’m avoiding all the noise and rules and it’s been blissful.

As a maternity nurse, I was going to say this! Trust yourself to cater to his needs. He'll be fine!

Gina Ford was the popular book when I had my kids. And while I didn’t follow her to the letter, my babies slept through from about three/four months and were ‘content’. Any book you need to measure against common sense.

Completely agree with this as someone who had the same struggle.
