My 3 year old is due to start full time nursery in a school setting this September but she in non verbal and is still not walking. I am under the physio and speech and language and I have requested something in writing from them so I can give to the school. They put the not walking down to lazy toddler and overall they have informed me is a global delay. On a waiting list to be seen by the Paediatrician.

My question is how can i speed up the process? I am worried about this.
Thank you.

Does the nursery know? She sounds like she needs an EHCP asap. Is she in any childcare currently?

Did the therapist actually write ‘not walking due to being a lazy toddler’ or is that an exaggeration? If they actually put that I’d be raising hell.

They think she's not walking because she's lazy. 😯 I'm not sure I'd trust anything they said if this was the sort of nonsense they were coming out with.

You really need to start the process of an ehcp, does the nursery know she cannot walk and is non verbal?

I am waiting for the nursery to let me know by next week if she has a place, I have been told it is highly likely she will have, once I know then I will get in touch with the nursery and give them letters from Physio and S&L of my childs situation, because the nursery would need to apply for funding as she will need a 1-2-1.

She is in childcare 2 days a week.

No the physio verbally informed me at the intial appointment that she is 'lazy' and will walk at her own pace. But now that I need something in writing because I want to be prepared for any documents the nursery may ask for.

A cover teacher who works at the school informed me that to let the school know as soon as the school tells me i have a place for her as the paperwork and funding takes a lot of time to process.

I just want to know, am I doing everything right so far?

TIA.

How old was your daughter at the first appointment? I would request to see another physio and get a second opinion if the physio thinks your child is still not walking at 3 due to being lazy as that absolutely won’t be the case. This as speaking as a Mum of a toddler who did not walk until 2.5 years. While our physio did think my DD didn’t have enough motivation to walk as she could reach everything she wanted bum shuffling she also immediately identified an underlying issue with low muscle tone. I’m also surprised it has taken so long to see the paediatrician. We left it a bit late to get a referral but got our appointment not long after 2.

Time for a new physio. That’s appalling.

Apologies, I don't know how to reply to individual post - only how to PM.

My daughters first physio appointment was 2yrs and 4 months when we had our first appointment.

Well, I have emailed the physio we see, and told her my daughter is due to start nursery full time and she has offered me a sooner appointment if I want one, or to wait until 16th May as my daughter is booked in to see the Orthotics (she needs insoles) to help aid her walking alongside activities.

She can send me a physiotheraphy review in writing next week, but my thoughts are I need to have another appt booked asap alongside a review in writing (up to date) so I can forward onto nursery.
