14 year old worrying about weight

DD, just 14 last week is saying she is overweight.
I think she is perfectly fine and is active enough to maintain her current weight.
She was smaller than all her friends until say the last 12 months. She was less than 5ft and is now just short of 5ft 5 and weighs 8stone 4.
She's convinced herself she is overweight because when out shopping with friends over half term she bought the next size up from her friends.
Somehow or the other they got onto to weight and one of her friends said she is under 7 stone and one of the others said she isn't sure what she weights but the last time she was weighed she was around 7.5 stone. All three girls are similar heights. The others didn't say but DD says they are not big like her. I've said she isn't big.
I've told her she is perfectly fine and perhaps the reason she weighs more is because she is a gymnast (12 hours training a week) and so is very muscular.
Is she an healthy weight and can muscle actual make you weigh more?

She isn’t overweight. You could prove that to her by using the children’s BMI tool on the NHS website, explain that muscle is denser than fat etc, but tbh, I would be cautious of doing that unless you know that it would reassure your daughter and she could then put it out of her mind. I’d be worried it could make it more of an issue, but you know your daughter best and whether that would help. She’s at such a vulnerable age with all the pressures around appearance, social media etc. She sounds a healthy weight though, as well as being strong and fit.

I was exactly the same age, height and weight as your DD when my eating disorder started full force. I was bigger than all the skinny girls. I did have boobs. I did feel HUGE. I was perfectly healthy.
Children and teens all mature into their bodies at different times.
I thinks its important to not be dismissive of how she feels. She isn't overweight at all, but there is a big range of healthy at that age.

My experience from working at a university is that the very very thin girls either haven't finished puberty, or have a formal eating disorder diagnosis. I don't have any words of wisdom except that your daughter sounds strong and is lucky to have you looking out for her.

Put her measurements in the nhs bmi calculator for kids and that will tell you exactly where she is. Do this in private and then show her if it shows a healthy weight.

I've already checked the child bmi calculator and told her she is healthy.
I think she's feeling big because before what feels like an overnight growth spurt she was only 6.5 stone so finding out two of the friend group who had their growth spurt a couple of years ago are only 7 stone and the other 7.5 stone it's confusing her why her growth spurts made her over 8 stone.
Ottermummy you might be correct about at least one of the girls maybe having an eating disorder (not diagnosed) because the house is always full of teen girls and now I think about it that under 7 stone girl doesn't seem to eat what the others do when they have tea.
If anyone has a 14 year old 5ft5 girl are any of them around DD weight or all under 7.5 stone.

DD is 13 , shorter by quite a bit and 7.5 stone. She was even 8 st at some point. Still a healthy weight by BMI standards. She’s pretty average in terms of her friends. Some are super skinny, some are more muscly/well built , some are quite short, some are very tall so there’s quite a wide range.
