hi all my dd has been dry during day since 2. have held off night time training till now because i have always worked nights and also because she was always really wet in the mornings. Now i am in full time job working days and really want to get her dry at night. Last night was first night in knickers, i lifted her twice then she woke at 5am with wet bed, changed her and she went back off to sleep. then woke again at 9 am wet. both were only small wee's really. i know its very early days yet, but just wondering if anyone has advice/tips etc and hoe long it usually takes before they are dry most of the time. thanks

Well my dd suggested not long after stopping her day nappy at 2.5 that she did want to wear one at night so it was very easy. But I would have approached it if there were problems by making sure she goes to the toilet right before bed, and no drinks after dinner. The body has to get used to not going to the toilet at night without a nappy for support. I would talk to her about it, try and imprint the idea and encourage before bed with affirmations of "good girl" "well done on no nappy" etc.

My dd1 used to be soaked in the morning so I decided to be sly with her and just drop into night nappy conversation that her friends wore knickers to bed (although never pushed it just mentioned), then one night she asked if she could wear knickers to bed like her friends so I made a deal that if she had a week of dry night nappies she can have knickers. Less than two weeks after the deal was made (and lots of encouragement every night) she was in knickers and we've only had two minor accidents in 3 months with no lifting during the night (she gets herself to the potty if needed). I may just be lucky but this has worked well for us, HTH.

DD was dry in the day a few days before her 2nd birthday - but has only just become dry at night a few weeks before her 5th!

I didn't do any training, it just happened. I tried about a few months ago and she had too many wet beds, so I put her back in nappies. I broached the subject again recently and said we'd try again but if it didn't work we'd keep on with nappies.

All I do is make sure she has a wee when she goes to bed - and that's it! No lifting (thank goodness, our loo is downstairs), no restricting drinks or anything.

If I were you I'd leave her in nappies and try again in a few weeks/months.

Surfermum & glitterandsparkle - you have put my mind at rest! My DD has been dry during the day since 2 yrs 5 months but I can't get her dry at night and she is nearly 4. I restrict drinks and she has a wee before bed, but if she goes without a nappy she is always wet. She sleeps very deeply and doesn't wake for a wee (and you can't lift her, as she is either completely unresponsive or you do wake her and she freaks out.) I was beginning to think it was going to be a problem, but Surfermum I think I'll follow you and wait until it happens.

DD is a really heavy sleeper too.

The other thing I picked up from here was that a sodden nappy in the morning wasn't necessarily a sign that she wasn't dry at night or ready to try, and I must admit I had been waiting for nappies to be dry. Right up to the point at which we went for it she still had a wet nappy in the mornings.
