Should I get 4 year old’s mole checked?

I’ve been keeping an eye on it since she was a baby, never had any concerns but I have health anxiety and for some reason, today it’s decided to be 100x worse. Mum gut isn’t telling me to get it checked but I’m worried I’m missing something.

Should I get 4 year old’s mole checked?

It looks like an ordinary mole to me (although I'm not a doctor). My 4yo has a few that look like that and it wouldn't occur to us to be concerned

RobinHeartella · 14/04/2025 07:51

Has it changed shape or size? Does it ooze? Is it weirdly asymmetrical?

As I say I'm not a doctor but if the answers to those are all no, is there any other particular reason you're concerned?

In what way has it changed?

Is that the right picture? Of your 4 year olds leg?

This was it when she was nearly 2. I know they’re likely to change as she grows, I think I’m just overthinking it

Yeah, that’s her leg.

Looks normal to me

More health anxiety. I'd be more concerned about the hairy leg!

Sprookjesbos · 14/04/2025 08:57

The bruising around it is odd, what has caused that?

I’m not even sure, she’s clumsy, her legs are battered and bruised all the time. She said she did it at nursery but can’t remember how.

I’d say her leg is unusually hairy for her age but the mole is unremarkable. It doesn’t have colour change, irregular borders and isn’t raised.

RobinHeartella · 14/04/2025 09:08

Her leg is not too hairy. People, this is a mum with health anxiety! Why say something like that...

Hairiness is genetic, me and my kids are hairy and my daughter is hairier than yours, op. My dd is still the most beautiful little girl I've ever seen in my life (obvs biased).

Nor is the bruise particularly strange, small children are covered in little bruises from romping about.

Thank you! She was born with a LOT of hair on her head and quite a bit all over her body, most of it has disappeared as she’s grown up. The hair on her leg isn’t as noticeable in person, think the flash on my camera has made it look much worse.

It’s not better or worse, hair is just hair, it’s just more than I would expect on a 4 year old.

ItGhoul · 14/04/2025 09:31

That’s a very normal mole. Almost more like a freckle. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate it. Fortunately, I’m not concerned about the hair or her bruises, she takes after both of us in that respect, I’m clumsy and he’s hairy 😂

I would definitely get it checked out.
For me, it looks like the borders changed since the earlier photo (might be just the quality of the photo).

I had melanoma - it was a small, brown mole, not raised, and the borders were fine. So when people say it' fine, thats not always the case.

Rather than be safe than sorry, your GP would never say it was a waste of time.

mindutopia · 14/04/2025 11:40

There’s nothing about that that would concern me. It looks like a normal mole that has probably grown a bit as she’s grown. My kids have loads just like it. I say this has someone with stage 3 melanoma who is very conscious of skin changes.
