Bronchiolitis

DS (1) has been unwell for almost 3 weeks now, been to GP twice & ended up in hospital one night this week as he was struggling to breathe, pale & not responding. He still doesn’t seem to be making any improvement. The only thing we have been told that’s causing it is bronchiolitis.

How long does it take until they start showing any signs of recovery?

He has on and off high temp, managed by ibuprofen & calpol (can tell when dose wearing off as temp spikes again). When temp up he is clingy, listless, just looks “unwell”.

Cough and congestion, at night he gets so congested he struggles for breath, gets upset and makes himself sick trying to dislodge phlegm.

Obviously no one getting much sleep & we are back to shifts like when he was a newborn. We’ve tried raising one side of cot and sleeping on a firm pillow under the sheet on advice from hospital.

Bronchiolitis absolutely sucks, my sympathies. DD had it 3 times and the worst was at this age. After a few trips to GP we eventually got prescribed an inhaler (salbutamol maybe? Salamol? Can’t remember) with a child size spacer. She hated it at first but learned to accept it with a special song and dance routine (!) and it did help her sleep better and breathe easier so maybe press for that?
