Vomiting once and then fine all day?

My daughter (9) was sick this morning. We had a very early morning, earlier than our usual week day routine, she got up, and ten minutes later threw up. She said she felt better afterwards and has been fine all day and not sick again since this morning (06:30amish) and it’s now 18:00pm. Could she have just been over tired or a change in routine that could have made her sick? Usually with a bug, she’s poorly for the full 24hrs. She hasn’t really eaten much, but seems fine within herself?

Following, we've had one episode of being sick over dinner with our two year old and she seems absolutely fine (other than the fact she didn't get any more dinner). How is she now OP?

Thanks for your reply! She hasn’t really eaten, and is saying her tummy is hurting but doesn’t feel sick, not sure if it’s hurting from not eating ! It’s just so odd! I have emetaphobia, so the thought of a bug and I’m bedside nyself, but this just isn’t how she normally is with a sickness bug.

One of my children throws up regularly when they are tired or after a prolonged period of activity (not always extreme activity - can be something as simple as a long walk) - it’s usually just the one time being sick and then they are back to normal eating normally etc it was a nightmare at childcare and school initially as obviously they’d be sent home for 2 days but school are used to it now so don’t call for them to be collected or make them stay home

My DS1 was often sick, just the once, if he got too hot.

Yes, I've got emetophobia too, it's so hard isn't it? I'm also doing a round of IVF at the moment, so my anxiety is absolutely through the roof at the moment. I'm sorry she's not feeling quite right yet

Thank you all for your replies!! Slowly but surely putting my mind at ease! I have a two year too, shes been in nursery since 9 months so pretty strong immune, but spreading through the house is always a worry! She has a sniffly nose too, so may even be Covid, I know that’s doing the rounds too! Anything to take my mind off of the dreaded sick bug!!

So hard!! Makes me feel so selfish, and it completely takes over my life, but I’m working through it! I can’t imagine what you’re going through, but good for you, and I hope it all works out and your little one is okay!

Does this happen frequently and ever first thing in morning? One of my grandchildren is like this. They are 5. Been going on a while. Under a paediatrician

amiadoormat · 18/12/2025 21:29

@6uqmw2cj yea fairly frequently - can go weeks without an incidence and then had several episodes in a week. First thing in the morning is the most common but honestly It can happen any time

Thanks for your reply. Yes school are used to my grandson now and don't send him home. There is absolutely no pattern to it. Sometimes morning sometimes afternoon. Never really evening. Sometimes lots of vomit other times only bile. Sometimes after food other times before . I'm terrified it's a brain tumour but paediatrician doesn't seem to think so. Says need to do tummy scan and barium swallow first then a brain scan last. Ruled out celiac disease and blood tests fine
