Should I get a stroller and if so which one?

I was thinking of getting a stroller for my by who is six months. I don't want to spend a lot of money but it would be nice to have something lighter to put in the back of the car! Any suggestions?

Maclaren Volo is light ( about 4kg). The seat doesn't recline though, so maybe not so good for a six month old.

Why? Are they bad? I struggle to get my pram in and out of the boot at the moment. Thought this would help.

Why not get one? I didn't even get a pram for DD I just bought a fully-reclining buggy.

If it is your first child and you will use it for another then I say go for it. I had travel system as we used the car a lot but then sold that and bought a maclaren techno XT as there was a lot of off roading so I needed big wheels, suspension, and it has lasted me for both children.

It fits in my boot well (but I have an MPV so massive boot)

Don't forget to get a raincover and hood for summer sun.

Stefka - I have been debating this for the last few weeks too - even said to my dh that I want one for my birthday !

I looked at cheap ones - posted on MN who sensibly said that if you go for the cheap option make sure that the front wheels swivel!

Then spoke to my SIL (the font of all baby knowledge and not one to be frivolous) and she said go for a mid-range Maclaren - they bough an el cheapo and regretted it!

Another MNetter said that TK Maxx sometimes have them on special offer - or look at Gumtree for a 2nd hand one.

I was told about the virtues of Maclaren and told how wonderful they are - bought one and didn't think much of it, the brakes were awful. everybody who told me how great the Maclarens were then said "oh yes, the brakes aren't very good..." I was talking to a friend yesterday about whether cheap buggies are a false economy and she said that she knows people who run a baby equipment business and they say that, of the cheaper brands, Graco is known as Cheapo Graco but that Chicco is ok.

I have a sling which we use for naps but there is no way I could manage carrying him around in it for longer periods. My back just gets too sore. Second hand is a good idea!

If you're struggling with your current pram then it's mad not to get one - why suffer if you don't have to, strollers are something most people use a lot ! At 6 months your baby will get at least another 2 years' use out of a decent one.

A Maclaren Techno is pretty perfect in every way and I think the newer models have resolved the brake issue, I bought mine new in late 2006 and the brakes are absolutely fine.

Cosatto is about £50 (half-price of the Maclaren's) and is v good, light, folds up easily. I much prefer using a stroller and it's much easier on the bus, in the boot, when flying etc. I was so glad to put my double buggy away and now only use the stroller day-to-day.

Saying that, before I got the Cosatto, I did have an ultra cheap one (about £15 from Carrefour) and it was rubbish, really uncomfy, no rain cover or shade etc.

Stefka where are you? I have a Maclaren Quest - few years old but still good nick. You could have it for free if you wanted to collect it. I am in Southport, Merseyside.

I wonder if a courier would take it, it is around £12 for DHL to deliver. Do you want me to find out? I have cleaned it up and it is by no means "new" but certainly worth spending £12 on. Sadly have mislaid the raincover but you could buy a universal one (the quest ones are pretty useless anyway).

I will get it out of the garage, check it over and give it a clean. I will wrap it in a couple of bin bags and tape it up, it should be okay. I won't get much chance today or over the weekend (DH away) but is Monday/Tuesday okay for you? Do you have an email address?

I use parcel2go.com a lot with ebay, they are fine. Weight wise won't be a problem and size wise should be fine also so happy days!
