Ideas for 1st birthday… ?

My daughter turns one in July and we honestly don’t know what to do to make it special. Obviously we are aware she won’t be bothered or understand what’s going on simply because she’s one but for me it’s a massive deal. We’ve thought about having people round to the house but our house & garden isn’t big enough to have people around. Both me and my partner come from big families and just with siblings, parents, partners and their kids there will already be 24 people. People have recommended getting a bouncy castle for the garden but unfortunately our garden is currently unsafe & the money we’d be spending on getting a bouncy castle for the amount of young children it wouldn’t be worth it. With her birthday being in July we’ve thought about doing little B&Q/party at home but again the house is way too small to have everyone around. We’ve been given ideas of going to a play gym but again there’s only a small amount (there’s only 6 “under 5’s” in the family so we’d feel like we’d again be wasting our money. We dont want to go over the top with everything but obviously want to make it special for mainly family.

Do something with just youz her and her dad. Anything else with the amount of people you're considering is likely to be hugely overwhelming for a 1 year old.

Go to a park to look at ducks, cafe for a little cake and say " OMG you're one whole year old" while tickling her tummy.
And then take a nap.
Seriously....she doesn't need a party or anything.
Edit : you could invite family to meet you in the park for a picnic.

Do you have a local country park that allows BBQ’s? You could set up a gazebo and have a bbq there, play some games and so on. Mumsnet is weird about first birthday parties, enjoy celebrating the first year of your little one!

If you want to involve yiur family, go to a big local park and have a picnic. There doesn't need to be a cost and everyone can bring their own food.
