Well I'm taking my mind off: ds's first day with childminder (blub) & it being a sad anniversary for me...suppose I could go mop the kitchen floor & scrub out the cat box...

...naaaaaah!

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 11:36

5 1/2 months - he was carried off, grinning his head off at the sight of all the childminder's dd's toys! Just hope he's not treated her to his hair yanking & head butting routine yet...

What are you studying for? Or rather skiving off from?

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 11:47

Where are you studying? How do you find it? What are you interested in at this stage.
Studying salt and being a mum-that would be tough!

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 11:57

im at city,london.
umm...oh im all exited.at the moment i am studying a psycholinguistic framework..and trying to do a piece of work thts a case study.

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 12:07

um hEr name doesnt ring a bell..how about Nichola Grove and kAREN bUNNING? [BOTH OF WHOM ARE ACTUALLY ELSEWHERE CURRENTLY!]

IM AN UNDERGRAD..DID YOU DO THE P/G DIP?..NOW THATWOULD BE HARD WITH A BABY.

mizmiz · 14/01/2005 12:16

Karen Bunning was just about to be appointed (as first ever lecturer in adults with LD) when I was there, but I did my longest placement with her, and wrote my thesis on her ISE work. She really impressed/impresses me. Hard to believe that only 9 years ago, LD didn't really have much of a profile on courses.
James Law still there? Saw him the other night on a Discovery documentary about feral children. Susannah Evershed-Martin? God I loved her!!!

I did p/g course-nearly killed me!!!
Are you living in halls? (er no, obviously not with a child. Sorry!)

mizmiz · 14/01/2005 12:17

Where is KB at present anyway?

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 12:25

susannah is now head of department...and she is still universally loved, although it is rather weird listening to her phonetics cd in bed!!

i think karen has gone to somewhere in east anglia? and i think james is still around..but no longer head of dept.

we have yet to study LD as for us gently cruising undergrads we do that in the third year.but i have worked with adults with ld for years [thats how i got into this!!]

the last really interesting thing i did was with a slt and a drama therapist...long storytelling project with rhythm and signs and objs of ref and ...it was amazing!.
have you ever worked in london?

OP posts:
beansontoast · 14/01/2005 12:28

thats my 12.30 deadline..bother,see you around

OP posts:
mizmiz · 14/01/2005 12:32

Ahhhh Susannah! Would have us all intoning 'clitoris' without a hint of embarassment!!!
Your project sounds fascinating. Just the sort of stuff that I am into!! No I haven't worked in London (apart from student placements.)Went back home after I finished. Won't say where though. I would be very easily identified if I told you where I was and what I did exactly! Not that I have delusions of grandeur (!) but I do give some general advice from time to time, and it is easier to be honest if I am anonymous

jammydodger · 14/01/2005 13:15

hi girls, I too am a slt and went to city - pg dip course- about 7 years ago, ish...
Very interesting to hear what all the staff are up to.
Is Carole Pound still around? She was fab. Am trying to rack my brains to remember the others..Sally Byng? Gwen lancaster? But Susannah was the best laugh...yep, who could forget the dulcet tones of her phonetics tape: "arse-ah"...and the "p"ness of P..it's all coming back to me!

jammydodger · 14/01/2005 13:16

just remembered -Tim Pring! How could I forget that name! Is he still around?

mizmiz · 14/01/2005 15:07

Hi Jammy
Tim Pring!!! How I used to dread his cogneuro lectures! And stats!!!
Actually I'm really into cogneuro now. One day it all just made perfect sense.
What's your field/area of interest?

Carole Pound and Sally Byng just launched a new charity for stroke patients-read about it in one of the broadsheets a month or so ago.

beansontoast · 14/01/2005 19:59

hi there jammy...another city grad!
im afraid i dont recognise any of the names on your list.maybe they have all hit the giddy heights of errm..else where.
cogneuro sounds a bit intimidating.i really dont know how anyone manages taht post grd course, had you studied anything similar before?

OP posts:
jammydodger · 15/01/2005 00:06

I dreaded TP's stats lecture too..God knows how I scraped a pass in that one.
I'm afraid I don't really have an area of interest! Well, that's not strictly true, I quite enjoy dysfluency and SLI, but have only worked in community clinics since qualifying so am hoping to work out what I am interested in and apply for something a bit more specialised when I finish being a SAHM (not for a year or so yet!)...am actually seriously considering going private too..

Beans - I struggled with cogneuro too, in fact I had to read that Stackhouse and Wells book about three times (yawn) till I finally clicked! And I think that although the course was good, I didn't really start to learn until I got out there and started work..but I guess that's usually the case isn't it?

Have to say mizmiz, I read alot of your advice to other posters here and think it's excellent!
