Colic stories

Hey all,
Just a plea for stories/comradery/signposting – my almost 4 week old DD has colic and I am just miserable (as is she). My midwife recommended cry-sis, I've reached out to my GP and I've emailed PANDAs, so I'm trying to be proactive. But, my god, this is the hardest thing I've ever done. She screams for hours whilst clawing at me and anything can trigger it – a nappy change, a feed, noise. I'm BFing, I've tried and continue to try Infacol, I use windrelief holds and baby massage techniques recommended by my health visitor. Nothing works :( Just struggling to see light at the end of the tunnel atm.

It’s bad, really bad, it will end. I know that it seems like this is your life now, but it isn’t, as with everything else, it’s just a phase, it will pass.

DS was horrendous, I was crying, he was crying, we walked the house for hours both crying together, he’s almost 14 now and glorious.

You can try all sorts of things, I’m sure people will suggest on here and some will help a little, but the main thing that helps is time, if you can get to 12 weeks you’ll almost be there and it’ll be mostly getting better in the run up. Hang in there…

It's bloody horrendous. Sorry to say my 2yr old had it from 6 weeks until bang on 4 months. Overnight it stopped and she became the happiest, smiliest baby in the whole world

My feet and legs were agony from the sling wearing and walking non stop for hours and hours a day. I feel for you

Dd was awful for it. It stopped once she went onto solids. I could never bring wind up. She cried for the best part of six months. Years and years later she tells me she doesn't burp, never has done. I'd never noticed. It will get better, give it time.

I’m so sorry, it’s awful. Mine stopped at 3 months, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. An hour of winding after every feed helped mine but it was exhausting. Is there any dry skin / rash too? If yes could be an allergy too

I hope you find this useful. I think it explains newborns really well.

Are there any signs of CMPA or silent reflux (or not-silent reflux, but you don't mention her being sick a lot)? Sometimes those can be dismissed as 'colic' or 'some babies are like that', but they're very painful – and treatable! DD2 was a different baby once she had the right reflux medication.

I would also try getting outside if you can, just a gentle stroll or sitting on a bench – the crying sounds less intense outside, and sometimes the motion or the change of scene soothes baby. And it's good for your mental health as well, which is so important when you're trying to cope with your lovely baby being so distressed so much of the time.
