How do you potty train when you are working full time?

DS is 2.7 and is not really ready for potty training yet.
I am going back to work full time soon and he will be at nursery.
One thing I am fretting about is what if he still isnt potty trained by the time I go back? (3 months time)
I cant imagine that it would go very smoothly trying to train him at home and at nursery simultaneously. Plus wouldnt they be too busy to give him the huge amount of attention he would need to get started?
I am thinking that if I can get time off fairlyt soon after starting work then I could take a week off to do it at home, but how will I know he is ready enough to do that and not waste a weeks holiday if he isnt ready? then we will be back to square 1!
Maybe I should even try and force it a bit more now to make sure he is in pants within the next 3 months even though I am not convinced he is ready...

What do other FT Mums do???

I don't think you can force it
If the nursery staff are good they will do it however you want it done so you can be consistent at home
Ds had fewer accidents at nursery as he just did what the other kids did

Really? That is good to know.
I did wonder if I would get enraged replies slating me for even considering letting the nursery do the bulk of his potty training!

lol
my sister was considering putting her ds in for a week so they could do it all (he went part time) as he was so much better there

I naively thought I was teaching my ds a whole new world when I took him potty shopping. But of course he just pointed at them and said ' potties like at nursery'

Gosh, dd was the only one of mine who was easy to train and it was mainly because she was at nursery as I worked full-time then - she actually decided herself to join in with some of the slightly older children who were being trained.

IME boys tend to be older when they get the hang of it (there are exceptions of course). if your ds is not ready just forget about it and let nursery sort it out when the time comes - it's one of the things you pay them a small fortune to do in any case!

Its easier when they are in nursery I think because they see the other children go to the toilets. Mine never went to the potty. Just straight to toilet in nursery. They have these little children's toilets. cute (when clean).

if you leave it till relatively late he will probably not need the huge amount of input you are worried about
ds came out of nappies about 3 y o and tbh all we had to do was a few reminders, and help with hand washing / bottom wiping etc

DS will be 2 next week, and although not potty trained yet, does a lot of sitting (and weeing) on the toilet/potty as thats what he sees the others at nursery doing, and doesn't want to be left out (he's full time). Nursery currently offer the potty at changing times, or if he asks, and are quite happy to do the potty training when we think he's ready.
