Hi

My 9 month old dh haS come up in terrible nappy rash, not only is his little bum red and sore but the skin has split a bit . This is the first time we have had nappy rash and i think i am going to put it down to teething!
Well - i am sure i heard that you cannot use Sudocreme with cloth nappies, so i have been given a disposable by a friend and but him to bed in that slathered in Sudocreme as i couldn't just leave it.
But - obviously the sposie is a one off and he will be back in cloth tomorrow morning so what can i use for nappy rash on a cloth bummed baby???

i think that you probably need to go to the doctor and get something for the rash,

my DS had very bad nappy rash (in washables) last summer and i did everything that was advised, such as time without a nappy, disposables, lots of different creams etc.
but nothing worked and it did not get better, in fact it got worse,
i then took him to the health visitor who prescribed an antifungal cream, but this didn't work either so i then went to to the doctor who prescribed a steroid cream (i think, can't quite remember) and the nappy rash cleared up within days.

I used Metanium for nappy rash outbursts, always cleared them up in a few days. This is a much more powerful cream than Sudocrem, should be fine with a cloth nappy though. It's sticky but does wash off.
This worked for us even when the skin was slightly broken, but as ten10 says if it's got infected (whitey bits?) best ask the HV.

Don't feel bad about using a disposable if it helps though!

Thanks - I will try the Metanium tomorrow.
Thankfully i dont think it is infected so hopefully i should be able to sort it out - poor little mite - i felt awful!

Metanium and bepanthen are both good,or kamillosan if you like herbal stuff -me. i'd never put sudocrem near anyone - I've seen too many sores get worse when it used to be used in hospitals , it has an incredibly drying effect, which can turn a small booboo into abig ouchy if it's on a naturally damp area. Another thing I'd do is change manically,I've had success clearing up nappy rash by changing twice as frequently as usual and cleaning with boiled water and camomile, then patting dry before replacing the nappy, a bit of obsessiveness is sometimes all that's needed. as for using creams on the skin with cloth nappies, i've not heard that one -they don't recommend creams with dispo's because they clog up the pores in the liner and cause them to leak, but unless you're using a synthetic(microfibre)nappy, it shouldn't cause a problem

For once this breakout has cleared: our washables (wonderoos) instructions said that we shouldn't use oily nappy creams but could use non-oily ones & recommended Organic Babies Babysalve. I really like it, smells lovely & lavendery & I think it helps prevent breakouts (which DS had when she was really little and we used disposables for a couple of weeks on advice of HV).
